In my area we have red and yellow maple which nether one look like this. But silver maple comes close, but no one bothers cutting it for firewood as there is plenty of oak, hickory, and locust around. Silver maple is more of a get it out of my way trees like pine and poplar in my area.

It is just plain old red maple. I am always amazed how much their bark can vary to the point that it imitates other trees

Sure looks like Sycamore Maple bark.

Now that I get looking closer, with it's curled bark edges it does look like Black Cherry.
