I recently purchased the X27 & X25 Fiskars. I wanted the X27 but the X25 (I thought) was the older original style with the longer and wider blade. The X25 #7854 was the one I misordered. I was curious about the older style and thought it still might be available. If anyone would like to trade or sell the older style for the 28" X25 perhaps we could swap. I'm not going to return the X25 because I have a need for two anyway. I live in CT but have a summer place in Maine. I used to move saws and stuff between the two but learned my equipment would always be at the other place. Now I have at least two of everything. Except for chainsaws (CAD) I have 5 (thinking about 6), three at each place, nice even number. No need to mess the car & trucks up with bar oil stains right! I thought you would understand.

I'd sell but I don't know if I have an X25 or the old SS. I like the X27 a lot. The shorter one scares me.:msp_thumbdn:

In the pic. the one on the left is the X27 the right ?

Yes, I think thats it!

The old style, I believe, has a longer blade but has a wider wedge. Like the X25 has a 28" overall length. I am a bit scared of the 28" length as I am 6'2" long but I always use a round about 18" high to split on. Hoping that will keep my chins and feet intact. If you want to part with it lets do it off the forum. Private email at [email protected].

Have you sharpened your X27? Just looks like it and if you did what did you use? I have been using those flap disc in my grinder, it takes a lot less off and can make it razor sharp with out a file. Haven't tried the X27 yet, but doesn't need it either. I would say that is the old model, why don't you like it, lenth?

Hi Andy,
I sharpen it very regularly, but it hasn't been done the last time I used it. I bought the $10 Fiskar's sharpener for it. It cleans up the edge well. I had one nick in the X27 I had to touch up with a file.

Ya, that one he has for sale is the old style original.

Split inside a tire man! Loads safer (It will catch and hold errant swings and too vigorous follow through) and you don't have to stoop over and chase chunks all the time, (more efficient). You can still use a block, just slap an old truck tire up there.

edit: whoops! Hit reply in the wrong place! Should be legible enough though who I meant to reply to.

I've heard of the tire trick. However having an old tire laying around by the wood pile or hauling one around does not interest me.

Putting a round on a round seems like it would make a lot more bending over. Often times I can right the piece by sticking the edge of the ax in the round and pulling it upright. I have a Logrite Hookeroon on backorder right now.

Tire works great really! I use a semi tire on a wire spool end at the acreage and you just set it up and roll it around. Didn't have one at the last spot on Saturday and my back is still reminding me if you know what i mean!

Found some on E-bay and Ace. Both show the old one but it might be a old stock photo. FISKARS SUPER SPLITTING AXE 78546935 | eBay

Fiskars® 28in Super Splitting Axe (78546935) - Axes - Ace Hardware

Axe, Fiskars Super Splitting Axe, 28" Handle, Fiskars 78546984

Hopefully you end up finding one. I have a couple of the original ones stashed away but don't want to part with them. Not sure I'd be happy with the new style.

7854 is the model number for the X25. If it says 7854 you'll get an X25, regardless of what the picture looks like.
