I like that saw!!! I have used it quite a bit, own one myself ,gave my father one, have a parts 026 too... I find myself going to this saw more lately... And I own a 361... It is a classic for a reason!!! I know there is newer and faster 50cc saws on the market but how about that 026.

They are tough little saws, I've been beating the snot out of mine for years and all I've ever done is replace a fuel cap.
 
I've just finished building my first one from a bunch of parts. All new rubber, a new OEM piston, a carb kit and the thing runs like a champ. I can't wait for the season to start!
 
biggest mistake i made was selling mine:bang::bang::bang: fantastic little saw never had a problem with it
 
I work on 5-10 of them a week, with the exception of developing air leaks in the plastic elbow of the carb they are pretty fool proof.
 
my fav 50cc class saw is an 026
like it better than a MS 260 .... just sold a MS 260 and kept my 026.

much prefer the old style gas/oil caps vs new style
 
Yes, I have a soft spot for my 026. It has a nice pillow it rests on after each use. Actually, I have 2 that I love. If I could find more, I'd buy them.
 
It seems to me that 026's and 029's are very close in price on the used market. In fact, I think 026's might be a little cheaper. I know which of the two I'd pick!
 
mainly the fuel caps... personal preference..

the MS 260 I just sold had 169 psi, pressure/vacuum tested fine, new rim sprocket/chain, rebuilt carb, new plug, etc... in short all the maintenance was done.

but I like my 026 better... just found a 3/8, 7 pin rim sprocket... now I've got to find a 16 bar with a 3/8 nose. wonder if someone makes a 6pin 3/8?

I'm curious what you like better about the 026 over the 260?

That's what I figured. Lots of guys don't seem to like them. I'm fixing up a 036 Pro that I'm hoping has the same alure when I go to sell it.
 
different strokes for different folk I guess. First thing I did when I got my 026 was ask if the fuel mixture and bar oil caps could be switched out. What do you guys find advantageous about having to use a scrench to loosen and tighten the caps?

That is the advantage.
 
if you've got to use a scrench to take off cap... you are tightening too tight. replace that oring for a better seal.... or arrrrgggghhh pay the stihl dealer $11ea like I just did.
