I hope it lasts since I had to sand so much and there was quiet a bit of scoring we'll see what she does after a few tanks and some hard work..

Here's the piston exhaust side before sanding

Here's the intake side of it. As I took the piston rings off they just broke into like 3 pieces each.

Exhaust side after sanding. I ended up sanding it down with a brillo pad to get the gunk off then the 300grit to smooth the bad scores out then polished it up with some 1500grit

The exhaust side after sanding, I did the same thing to the jug sanding wise just used a brillo pad to get the gunk off then the 300grit to get the big stuff smoothed out then went over it with the 300grit to polish it up.

Jug after sanding and getting cleaned up

I couldn't get the bolt out that was holding the bottom half in (didn't mess with it much) so I just ended up leaving it attached and cleaned it all up together. I figured if I'm going to clean it up I might as well clean the whole saw along with it.

Here's the jug all assembled and put back on I just lubed it all up good with 2-cycle oil (as I read to do) which I woulda prolly put motor oil on it anyhow haha just don't think it burns as easily haha and I used atv grey high temp silicone just a nice thin line so I didn't get to much into the crank. I just wedged the piston rings in as I put the piston in it all went alot easier than I had expected it too

Final after being completely re-assembled my first rebuild
It all started right up

I shoulda recorded tryin to start it on the first try but I didn't think of it. She bogs a bit from idle but I haven't tuned it yet and it's a bit too late to be doin that, I'd prolly get some old lady callin the cops sayin there's a mad man with a saw in my alley! :chainsaw: :greenchainsaw:

just a suggestion....get a new piston before that thing tosses its cookies again. That was a lot of aluminum you took off, it has to be out of tolerance. Also did you put new seals in it? What about the case sealant? If those things were overlooked, its bound to blow up again.

Yeah I agree. You sanded a lot off the piston. It is an 029 Super though...

x2 if he worked over the cylinder aswell, which he must have. All that adds up pretty quick. If u can get a p/c for it I would do it, nice job bringin' her back to life though:clap:

maybe the cyl survived. I have heard the super cyl are the best cyl out there for the 029. Either way, this one is gonna need some more attention before i would go callin her '' back to life''. It is a clean saw though....

Good job. Its amazing how much tolerance engines have. I wouldn't peg the rpm's on that baby until she settles in good. Oh, by the way real men don't need pretty fingernails. Saw on !

It looked to me like there may still be transfer in the cylinder. If that's the case, it probably won't last long at all. If you did, you may surprised how long it'll run. My Dad's 011AVT seized up good from the spark arrestor screen blocking up. We cleaned up the cylinder, sanded the piston and rings, and put it back together. It's still running after a fair bit of use. Runs good too, lol!

Good post and good pictures! But I'd like to know what kind of compression it has. I'm sure it'll run, but a new piston and a bit of acid treatment on the cylinder will probably produce a lot more power. But that's definitely a saw worth the effort.

PS: We don't see too many clam-shell rebuilds around here so I'm repping ya for that!:)
