Crazy MS440 Popup

When Stihl deals you an odd hand, the solution has to get a little creative as well. This is the non-Mahle, Stihl cylinder that came on my MS440, probably one of the last produced. It has a very rough sand cast finish in the combustion chamber and is very irregularly shaped. So when trying to maximize compression with a popup on the piston crown, the shape had to be just as irregular, or loose volume displacement.

Here we are finding the edges of the combustion chamber.

Setting the piston up in the mill, preparing for the cut.

And the final result.

I thought this popup was pretty cool looking. Thanks Nik for another great job

That cylinder is real funky. Its good to know there is a way around that issue

It certainly wasn't that at all. The saw turned out great.
