Are the strato models worth anything I was just given 2 more. Maybe part them out or not worth it.
I keep them for parts saws and for loaners.
But they are so gutless IMHO compared to their non strato older brothers.
Compare sometime. I did again this summer and used 2-3 different strato and all were sub par cutters compared to the non strato.

Can they be made run good and not.so finicky. It seems like the one strato I had allways need tuning. Are the non strato like that

Thought I would post few more pics and a video of my old Poulan still gettin it done. Probably the last real big tree I'm gonna work on this year. The big trees is where the 5200 shines. I made maybe 1/2 dozen more bucking cuts after I turned the camera off, and like a dumb ass, I was cuttin in the dirt. After that, I could barely cut bark. So gave it up for today. Will have to sharpen the chain to cut more. Lotta wood in these old Oaks. Was 24" where I was cutting. Fat end is 30".

Gregg,

I had a strato 42cc for awhile. I used it for my root saw, and then started to feel bad because it held up better then I expected. Cleaned it up, and muffler nodded it and it wasn’t a bad little saw. Ended up selling it to a coworker for $150
I have collected a few so far. Can they be made to run good and hold a tune or do they allways need adjustment. I'm contemplating selling the strato and going with the older saws not sure yet.

Just wanted to show couple pics that I wasn't slackin off, and did finish the job. lol Sharpened the chain but didn't cut good at all. So went and put my 30" Poulan bar back on and used that. Been using a cheaper 28" Forester bar last couple years, to save the better one some. Was thinking on one of my many rest breaks, how for 20 years I used nothing but a Poulan 3400 for all my wood cutting. Geeez, If I only knew about a 5200 back then.. Right tool for the job. So much easier.

Gregg,
It looks like a different saw with the good bar on it . But I get wanting to save it . Nice combo.

We moved about 2 months ago. Between unpacking, work, kids and other jobs in and outside the house I’m finally getting around to some tree work. I’m cleaning the edge of the lawn that goes deeper into our woods. Mostly small stuff, plenty of big stuff to clean deeper in, plan on making some trails. I broke out my 3450 type 3 today. Definitely a top 5 saw for me. 32F923CA-FE47-4C53-A47F-9A72CBF79DB2.jpegB0C3B3E4-37DE-4C84-90F5-4B1E6EB34DDF.jpegF95EA13A-FA6E-43C1-8D4D-EBC8065938CC.jpeg

I have some questions about the 3400 ignition coil. I picked up a 3400 thats missing the coil. I have a 3.7 parts saw. Will the coil work? The coil I have is a prestolite. I didn't do a good job describing that but I think you guys can get the drift of what Im saying.

If the coil ran the 3.7 parts saw, then yes it will fit & work. Most 530039093 coils are branded Phelon.

They’re also cheap & available from fleabay right now, but likely will be double the price next year, lol!
