I keep seeing people talking about how much saws are overseas and in Canada. So I was bored before football games today and looked up prices in Can. and have their prices in U.S. money.

You guys from other places show us just how sweet we really got it here with your prices. If I had to pay these prices I wouldn't have so many.

Holy crap!$967 for a 2156? I bought mine last winter and paid around $650.Down the road at the Husky dealer the 357 was going for about $750.
My 2156 wasn't on sale and came with a case, oil, file kit, chain, hat, etc, etc. The last time I was in the price was the same.
The local Jonsered dealer also sells Stihl and their regualr price with extra goodies on a 260 was $599.
As our dollar is on par or better with yours now it may be similar but last year when I got mine I believe we were around .86 USD which would make those figures even more out there.

Got to remember I just grabbed these prices off the net sellers (yes even a stihl net seller) with their prices listed. I am sure other dealers are much cheaper, I'd hope anyways.

And you are not expected to get any kind of deal on our prices. A chain, some oil or a file - and that's it.

The OUCH factor got worse.

Thanks for posting.

Why?

:hmm3grin2orange: J/K. What's the difference in the Arctic and Standard?Heated handles and a snow cover for the side or something else?

Because I like them. I have had Stihl, Husky and Jonsereds with heated handles and find the Stihls have more heat. It was cheaper than the 346 XPG. I have six 260 parts saw that I took on trade for firewood.

No snow cover. I think other differences are; adjustable oil pump, heated carb. I also find the German saws have more power than the US saws (regular 260). It may be all in my head but as the name says, Crazy.

Maybe in your head but maybe not.As far as cars go,the made in Germany Jetta's and Golf's were always better than the Brazilian or Mexican versions-though they were supposed to be the same.Sometimes little differences add up to a lot.I always thought my 026 worked pretty well until I tried a 260.No comparison although they weren't supposed to be much different.

And people call Stihl overpriced.:)

That is crazy what you guys pay for saws.

You would think with the Canadian dollar being higher than the US dollar for months now that things would have adjusted.I think the Cdn is $1.08 USD now.We should be paying less. Can you say gouge!

But the saws are not coming from the U.S. are they? Should be from Germany, Sweden, etc, right? It is your dealers mark up I bet.

I remember running car parts across the border to my gear head friends up north. $100 part was almost $300 up there.

I was afraid this was gonna happen,,,,

While on business In Canada a few weeks ago the Can. dollar was @ 1.05,,,,

I stopped in a Stihl Dealer's place in Cambridge Ontario just checking prices,,, He didnt have one in stock but he said he could get me a wrapped MS440 W/20" bar for $1019.00 from The Canadian west coast,,,,:buttkick: :dizzy: I had to decline,,,, so I just bought a Stihl hat!!!!! for 15.00!!!!

I know what you are saying about the VW's. We would only buy the German ones. On the road they would out perform the Mexican ones.

I had this discusion with the dealer when I got my saw. Our Stihls come from the US. According to the guys at the shop Stihl Canada is pocketing the difference. I saw their cost on saws and it is higher than what the customer can get one for in the US. They are expressing their displeasure for this to Stihl. Fat chance of getting a change.

I paid $600.00 for my 2159 with the usual hat file case. I order all my 4x4 truck accessories from the U.S even complete lift kits it cheaper than buying from a 4x4 shop as I think they get it in the same place I do then add there 30-50% I paid $1000.00 for a air locker here they wanted $2100.00 I asked if that was installed!Mid you that was almost ten years ago.

NZ prices

these are estimates but will be within $50. In US dollars of course.

Stihl MS200T $1200
Stihl MS660 $1875
Husky 353 $750
Husky 346xp $1125

These are just the prices I remember! Tend to buy second hand when I can (as you can imagine)

The 441 sells for close to a grand here and so does the 372 with a 20" b&c I think I am going on a roadtrip to the US soon I see a 90cc saw in my near future hahaha
