Gilardoni cylinder? What does that mean?

E-lux is owns Poulan, makes some models in McCullochs factory in Italy, it makes sense to me.
But it does not make sence that E-lux claim to only use Mahle cylinders and pistons.

I found this about Gilardoni:
Based in the Lake Como area of Northern Italy, Dott. Vittorio Gilardoni SPA specialises in the manufacture of aluminium cylinder heads and barrels for motor cycle and other small engines.
Other info found shows them as an OE suppier to quite a few makers

The Gilardoni parts that are made for Poolan are probably made of styrofoam by Pakistani child labor. The Gilardoni parts on the Husky 42 were probably made from some relatively cheap aluminum alloy by mexican labor. :p

But Stihl parts are crafted by little dwarves in caves located in the alps and are forged from the finest iron ore.

Stihl is just to cheap to use Gilardoni cylinders, it would cut into their profits. Just adding gas to the flames lol.

you guys say they are good, but all the gilardoni cylinders I've seen on the husky 50 series are a weak casting. The nikasil or chrome doesn't seem to hold up as well as the Mahle counterparts.

I have cleaned up scored mahle cylinders on these saws, but every gilardoni was trashed beyond repair.

Take it for what it is worth, just my experience

Gilardoni is the spin-off of what used to be Moto Guzzi's nikasil plating facility in Mandello del Lario. It was originally set up to plate cylinder bores for the then-new small block (350-500cc) engines, which were then sent to Milan for final assembly.

If memory serves they became an independent entity about 10 or 15 years ago, but I could be confusing them with any number of formerly in-house services that Guzzi jettisoned over the years.

(This happened with some frequency, as Guzzi - dropping from being the world's second-largest motorcycle maker to near bankruptcy - struggled to survive.)

..no problem...it happens to all of us...many times I have to go back an reread what I just read.... in my case..some of it due to old age ...hahaha:cheers:
