Yes I've already heard every witty comment on this topic. Yes I understand that this is a huge issue and every company in the green industries biggest problem.

I'm looking for success stories and techniques people have had and the methods they used. Obviously it's a struggle to find an employee that has or can obtain a Cdl. Good, safe climbers are a dime a dozen. Most guys cant remember how to untie a knot so throw any sort of certifications and education out the window.

It would be ideal to get a younger person to work and mold him into the ideal employee but it's much easier said than done. Any one successful on this subject please let me know your ways.

If you find someone young that wants to work and learn and is dependable... pay him enouph he won’t wander elsewhere .... the milenial generation for the most part is a bunch of entitled d-bags that you have to worry about hurting there feelings by telling them that they almost killed you or cost you your livlyhood . Overentitled and lazy . Want 17$ to work at McDonald’s and will spend all day playing on the Twitter and instagrams . And no matter what you do or how well you take care of them they will find anything and everything to complain about . Our nation has a bleak futer without some sort of wakeup !!

I hired a 17 year old girl who finished highschool a year and a half early, and loves physical fitness. Very smart, always on time, very interested in the industry, and I can't tell you how many clients LOVE seeing a hardworking young woman in this industry. I find she's a bit smarter than the young men I've tried to hire, bit easier to work with to. Just my two cents.

That's great! Girls also tend to be more careful and work smarter, which is good when she starts to climb and work up in the trees. Of course there are guys that work smart and girls who doesn't but still...Guys tend to do things wrong because we are stronger and can reach further with the saw (and things like that) and that puts a lot of stress on our body. I've developed subchondral sclerosis in my shoulders, probably hasn't helped that I've worked harder, not smarter....

Lol yeah I've got a few minor back issues from trying to lift more than anyone else (bigger logs, drag more brush). It's like you said some girls won't work smarter, and some will, just like some guys won't work smarter and some will. I just find this generation of young men to be very gongshow oriented, not consistent day to day, and they seem to have trouble showing up consistently. With her their is a bit less strength, but a bit more thought put in, and just all around consistency which is key.
All this being said I also employee a thirty eight year old male who is an amazing employee (way more expensive), so it can go either way...
I'd recommend trying a young girl out, you might be surprised! Again customers absolutely love it!

Pay em.

Takes time to find good people make it worth their while.

Patience, proper training takes some really good **** ups, that said if they don't get it, don't care or don't learn cut em loose, i have very little patience for stupidity or arrogance, ignorance and inexperience can be solved.

Answer all the stoopid questions they don't know whats going on so inform them, followed by doing what you say.

Admit your own faults, nothing worse then a moron boss that don't take credit for their bad decissions

As fer this younger generation.

Give em some time, many have never seen hard work up close and personal, most don't spend much time outdoors, so they need to fail a few times to get their **** sorted out, face we all did, just most of us got it out of the way young...

Once they realize mommy and daddy ain't going to catch them when they fall, there will be a giant sucking sound as their collective heads clear the rectum spincter... gasp oh S i need a job... bills don't pay themselves!
