I have a Quadrafire Isle Royale with which I have a love/hate relationship.
Love: good burn time, attractive to watch and easy to load.
Hate: unreal prices for parts... some parts were designed by a fourth grader..

I need to replace the fiberboard insulation which prevents the flip back damper from warping and the dealer wants $80 for a 1/2" x 10" x 16" piece of (vermiculite?) which is very fragile...

DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A BETTER SOURCE OR A MORE DURABLE ALTERNATIVE MATERIAL?:angrysoapbox:

Find a kiln or refractory service in your location They will have a ceramic fiber board that is 1/2" thick. I got a 2x4 (1/2 sheet) from the company here for $50. Any saw will cut it. I used it to replace the top insulation baffle plates in an older stove of secondary burn design which were of a similar material. works great.

Thanks a lot!

I have a glass blower with a big furnace right here in town and I bet he will know of a source or even have some material that I can purchase so thanks for the great lead... I will check it out in the am and let you know how it goes!

Again, many thanks!
