The ignition module from the 20MCS gave spark. So I'll stick with that one. It stated on the ChainSawr website that the same ignition module is indeed used between several Homelite chainsaws.

It's back together now since a few days ago. I may post some pictures later.
Anybody who has any idea on how I can get the starter cover to fit tight? It has the clips, but the recoil won't go back too easily, as it touches the tip of the pulley.
You mean the pulley rubs the cover? Could be any number of reasons. Is the cover dented? Does the pulley wobble on the crank (there are 2 needle bearingsband races in the hub that need grease and can wear). Is the pulley set out too far? There are shims right under pulley that you remove or add to space it away from the fan housing.
Finally, this is a common issue and why so many covers turn up missing. If it gives me trouble, I just remove them when using and replace it on the shelf.

I believe everything is assembled correctly, but the shim was apparently a bit damaged, so I made a new one which now when I think about it maybe a bit thick...
Let's see a picture of that saw you built. My curiosity is piqued.
The shim needs to be just thick enough to keep the pulley off the spring cover.
That's a thick shim. Original is, I suspect, closer to 1/32" thick but you may need more than one.

The pulley's back on now. Spring sounds a little fiddly when retracting the rope, but that's probably ok. I heard the same sound on a guy's 8-29 on YouTube.
Like I said, don't forget those bearings in the pulley hub. Also, it is possible to have the wrong washers under the crank nut and you could be contacting the hub causing it to drag.
