Got a good deal on a mint 7910 - now have an opportunity on a near new 7100. Already have a GZ5000 - GZ4350 and really do like the RedMaxs. Also have a Dolmar 5105 and its a great saw as well soooo kind of up in the air. Only need one larger saw, but which one - not sure - like to hear back a few thoughts, suggestions. 7910 or the 7100 ? Pro-Con.

7910 spins at 12.800 vs the 7100 at 10200 - 5.7hp vs 5.6hp - but the 7910 is 78.5cc as opposed to 70.7 on the 7100 - weight is negligible -7910 is only .6 more so spec wise - aside from cc, they're pretty close - so boils down to personal preference or real world performance. hoping to hear back from someone with experience with both saws that can offer perspective.

Thanks in advance!!!!

I'd pass on both because they are obsolete and you can take it to the bank that parts will be an issue sooner rather than later. Especially with the dolmar. That company never did have a functional parts distribution system near as I could tell. At least with the 7100 you can use some Husky parts.

Don’t purchase a saw just by the published specs. The way you are understanding those numbers isn’t what they mean. The 12,800 on the Dolmar is the limited coil maximum unloaded RPM. The 10,200 is likely peak power RPM while cutting. As you can see, the two mean nothing to each other and don’t compare.

Power wise, the Dolmar is considerably faster than a 372 xtorq.

I think the 7100 is just a 372 xtorq, basically a rebranded 2172 Jred. Both are decent size. Internal parts availability will be better for the redmax. The outside covers, brake levers, handlebars, gas tanks … are going to be tough to find pretty quick I believe.

Appreciate the 101.....didn't realize the coil-max rpm to under load relationship, appreciate the explaination. Too used to car, motorcycle engines and rpm, tq numbers game there. Offered a last chance on the 7910 in front of another guy so went ahead and bought it - $550 shipped, mint condition so hoping it works out. Not a saw I'll use very often but wanted a bigger saw for those times you do.....my GZ5000 is my go-to saw. Had a 5105 but it died, not worth the cost to rebuild....so parting that one out. Anyway, much thanks!

Well for my money I'd go with the Redmax, I have two ( GZ7000, G5300 ) and they are my most reliable saws, more reliable than Stihl & Husky.
Redmax 7100 is not a rebranded 2172 or 372 XTorq, it is the other way around, why do you think Husqvarna bought Redmax in 2008 ?
it was to get the patent and engine technology that Redmax designed.
All 4 & 5 series Huskies have a Redmax designed engine.

No, it's not that other way around. The 7100 is a Husky design. It was based off the Husky 371, which became the 372/Jonsered 2171 and then the 372XT. The 372 predated the Redmax deal by a good many years.
Husky's interest in buying Redmax was to gobble up their patents, which pretty much had strato tech locked down. Subsequently they were forced to share this with Stihl who was even further behind Husky. It was never about getting Redmax saws or their saw designs.
The GZ7000 is a slightly heavier, slightly less power version of the Husky 570. The GZ5300 is likewise based on the Husky 353.

So that’s not a rebadged 2172 Jonsered? a.k.a. 372 xtorq underneath?

Ok lol.

Got a chance to use the 7910 yesterday, never cutting with a larger saw...man this thing rips. Sure glad it has that compression relief, a bit hard to start at first...needed adjustment, really impressed with this saw. Still can't believe i got it for $500.....looks like it was maybe used once, Muffler mod shortly. Pic here with little brother.

Muffler mod - done. The oem muffler on this thing is sooo restrictive i don't even know how the saw breathes.....fixed now. Much better.
