I don't have any doubt, but will post a better pic if he won't accept it . It looked like maple, smelled like maple, and cut like maple. However, he started having me second guess a little because the rest of his land is all old oaks.Silver maple.
If doubt remains, make a cleaner cut on the end grain. Each annual ring in oak will have very wide pores while in maple you can't see the individual pores - it is much harder to see the rings.

Look in the lower right corner of the 3rd picture. Those are silver maple leaves.Show some pics of the leaves. Much easier way to identify type of tree.

Ya I knew when I made my first cut. The smell and how fast I cut through it. The rounds are surprisingly heavy but not as heavy as oak.Weight alone of the rounds would tell you it isn’t oak. Not that maple is super light but oak is solid and heavy.
