A tree that is split and could separate at any time while dropping is dangerous...right?

Has anyone tried wrapping a heavy chain (or big rope) around the tree a bunch of times and tie it off?

Then cut the tree and be safe??

Was just an idea.....

Yes on all counts. It is very dangerous. Chain binders or heavy ratchet straps are a common and very useful tool for just such trees.
If you know someone that could show you, by all means give them a call.

Have pics?

Be careful out there.

I don't have any split trees not to mention I'm not ready to try it myself. I was with a guy once that got hit by a split tree. He was a pro in his younger days and this one snuck up on him. Cost him 2 broken ribs, poke lung and a few days in the hospital.

I saw a special on Modern Marvels about ropes and chains and how strong braided rope was. So this was just a thought in my little head! But...I figured if someone has tried it, you guys would know!! Guess there really are no new ideas left......

Thanks Bootboy!
