I live in Northern VA and planted a 15-20 foot Kwanzan tree in full sun about 5 weeks ago. When I bought it, it was covered with buds that burst open once planted with beautiful blooms. Leaves came out all over and we've had some good rain in the past few weeks. All of a sudden, in the past week or so, the leaves are falling off.

I can see there are remains of flower buds at the very top that are brown and dried. Some leaves are still attached, but it's losing more each day. The branches are really pliable and a scratch test showed really green underneath on the trunk and branches.

Our area has clay soil, so we added a lot of potting soil with a nice heavy layer of hardwood mulching.

Is it just in transplant shock or is it dying? I fed it with fertilizer yesterday. Was that a good idea?
