Was the 361 designed the same way as the 441?
Or does the number 1 at the end of the model number denote something else in the Stihl lineup.
I was just curious if the 361 had the same engine design as the 441.

If anyone knows,
Thank you.

Nope, the 361 is a more conventional design, though from what I understand a more advanced port design than found on the 360. The 441 is a stratofied charge design, which is new to the Stihl line.

They both have spring based A/V though. The "1" in the number, I think is like a generation thing. The 361 replaced the 360. But unlike the 360 being the 036, they had to denote that it was a new saw filling it's predacessor's slot; the next generation if you will. The 441 is replacing the 440, but it's in no way the same saw. Just my guess.

Hey Jeff: If that was a guess you're very lucky; it's right on!

Yes it is!

The sad part of the story is that they went a few bridges too far with the 441, and ended up with a saw that was heavier than its predessessor, instead of slightly lighter, like the 361. ;) :help:
