Muffler mod principles

I'm thinking of modding the muffler in my partner p85. I have a couple basic,(I'm sure previously asked) questions. Is the basic idea to enlarge the exhaust outlet? Do you need to do anything inside? I have the ability to split and reweld the muffler if needed. This muffler has two outets on the on the sides. One has a diverter that most the exhaust comes out of it. the other has a cap that some comes out of. How much bigger should I go? thanks
