Need Help to Id tree

Hey, my mate found this tree on a bush walk, and took some photos, im prity sure the damage is caused buy a native pest the Puriri moth, i dont think this tree is native, my mate said that most of the trees in the area were damaged, i would be intrested if any one can id sorry the photos are mostly close ups of trunk area.

any ideas would be appreciated

At a guess is could be putaputaweta (carpodetus serratus) although the obvious answer of puriri does spring to mind, hard to say without better pics.
