I am hearing different views on tree coating. Especially when trimming Maples.
Some say it is proven to not be useful. However, it is still for sale and some recommend it. I am interested in other views. Thanks.

Generally tree paint is not used anymore. It is found to hold moisture and slow down the wound closing process. Usually best to let the tree heal itself. Some areas that have oak wilt use the product to help prevent the spread of the disease into open wounds, but depends on the area and situation.

yep, that is the only time it is appropriate...and really you should just not prune red oak during the summer, then you don't even need to paint those.
