Trying them all
There have been lots of threads on this site over the years regarding using avgas in chainsaws. Mostly because it is a high octane, very stable and consistent fuel and has an amazing shelf life.
However, the downside has been the lead content. There have been numerous attempts over the years to make a product that didn't require using the additive tetra-ethyl lead. While success has been pretty limited thus far, there is a brighter future ahead as Shell Oil (a major player in the aviation fuels market) has come up with what they believe will be an unleaded fuel that meets the octane requirements and other specifications. Testing has commenced and they are now beginning to attempt the huge regulatory process to get the fuel approved by the FAA, EASA, and ASTM. This will be a multi year project but when completed, if other viable solutions go away, this could be a bright spot for ope users.
