Disregarding availability, future resale, your current line-up, etc- would you rather have the M.S. 460's greater displacement and power to weight ratio, or the more advanced M.S. 441 with smoother A.V. and increased efficiency? Such a coincidence these two are of identical weight.

I just wanted to get the A.S. breakdown of preference (can't say both L.O.L.)!
 
Like we had to guess how YOU voted W.C. If I could handle the vibes or not I.D.K., but I think I'd take the one with more power since they both weigh the same. Husky-afficionados will you take the M.S. 441?

Good question L.S. disregard price too. I had put that in the O.P. then edited it out. Just a pure "choose-one" situation, in a vacuum (if you will)!

As far as I know, the 441 actually is the heavier one - Stihl was a bit creative with the weight listings when the 441 appeared, as the 440 and 460 suddenly became heavier, and the 441 weights a tad more than advertised.

This reminds me of the first part of the "Da Prince" thread.........:angrysoapbox: :poke: :laugh: :laugh: :ices_rofl:

I didn't vote in the poll, as I wouldn't buy any of them - enter the 372xp and PS7900.........:popcorn: :givebeer:
 
Not a fair comparison, 2 different saws with different ratings and they both have plus and minus. Can't base the purchase on weight. I have both so I know. :)

Wow that's exactly where I learned of the M.S. 441's improvements by trading up weight equal to (or greater than?) the M.S. 460. B.T.W. "both" and "neither" are O.K. if you don't want to play along- but here you are so you could just imagine if you were offered one for free (if you'd otherwise never buy one). And if you already have both- which would you give up if you had to give up one. It's not a slight on the other one by any means, I'm just curious (I.E. not a official "which is best" determination, just a personal "choose one" scenario if that's not too conceptual for you)! Otherwise we could do 460 vs. 460 L.O.L. because that IS a fair comparison in every respect just not as much fun.

D.D.T.- though weight probably does fall somewhere among these +'s and -'s you speak of, whoever made a purchase based solely on weight would really be missing the big picture (good point)! Since you have both- can you notice a difference in power between the two? What about what S.T. mentioned regarding the recently "adjusted" weights- notice any difference between the two, or pretty much dead even? Any other plusses and/or minuses I might have overlooked on these two? My dealer said the M.S. 441 was the most commonly complained about with problems getting it started, but I suspect that's limited to newbs that don't know how to operate their chainsaws I.T.F.P.! For you both models are probably equally easy to start, right?

Yep. Power is good, but power isn't everything.


Me? I dunno enough to vote. I just wish I could afford either one! :D
 
My main thing is there is some big timber in my area, I frequently need a very long bar, and I don't want to become exhausted carrying around a very heavy saw. So the 460 was right for *me*.

BUT if you live in an area where the trees are not so large, then a shorter bar and less powerful saw would work just fine...

With that said, I like the "MS 441 C-Q" because it says it has the features of the 441 which mentions using less gas (VERY GOOD!), plus lower vibration (A BIG PLUS!), then it seems to have 3 different ways of stopping the chain...

-Chain brake.
-Inertia.
-Releasing hand from rear handle.

So I vote for the 460 if you need a long bar, the power to drive it, and don't want to lug around a very heavy saw. Otherwise the MS 441 C-Q looks VERY good!

Intersting that you can tell immediately when you're following a single 1967 Mustang down the freeway... must have sucked when they were all that way!

That's a good question. Never thought of it that way. Something worth considering if you run your saw on a daily basis.

I moved to Chicago in 1963, and the pre-PCV leaded exhaust vapors were incredible downtown. I picked up a pretty good case of childhood asthma there, wonder why....................

Yes, it did suck in a big way.

Bought a new Outback 3 years ago, and was unloading and assembling a tool rollaway in partially closed garage that winter. Car was running so quietly I didnt hear it for twenty minutes. I was working right behind the car, and I didn't smell anything, no headaches....

Subaru PZEV cars have exhaust cleaner than urban air. SOme things are better now.........
