Tree lopper is the most generally used (and most offensive) term used by the public I've met in Australia

"What do you do?"
"I'm an arborist"
"What's that?"
"I climb trees and care for them"
"Oh, you're a tree lopper!"
"No, I'm an arborist"
"So, what's the difference?"
"How long have you got?"

i can use tree hugger, arborist, urban forester, tree whisper much depending upon the circumstance or the interaction. I will qualify that i dont actually deal with tree management issues much, i more often deal with people and their relationships with trees, so im more of a tree or arbor councilor "perception" consultant .
