Any baby boomers still heat with wood?

My stove burns wood or coal. I've burned both over the years. Since 2010 I have pretty much been burning coal. Just all around easier. I'm 68.

post a pic of your wood burner in use...

Fired up with wood a couple days ago, but will be switching to coal after the weekend. Took this one about a half hour to re-discover her winter spot.

What causes firebrick to crack ?

I've had some in my stove that have a crack but have not fallen apart. The stove is coming up on 30 years and I haven't replaced a brick. All is well so far.

    Soapstone kettle

What I use, and it was free. The soapstone seems a little pricey for me for what it's purpose is.

    Roll Call

That's one of the nice things about coal. Less tending to. Twice a day I will shake the ashes down, dump in a can outside, and refill. I have the coal stored outside so the black coal dust isn't a problem. It's the white dust from the ashes that needs to be tended too once in a while. A nice...

    Been bad this year.

That's how it seemed every year for a while with me. I always ended up buying wood anyway, so eventually I ended up going back to coal to fill the void. My stove burns both so now I may go 75% coal / 25% wood. Less pressure to get up the woods and less beating on the body. I brought back the...

    Educate me on pellet stoves...

A solid option being you are in the heart of the anthracite coal region. Perhaps a stove that burns wood and coal. That's what I do anymore. Nice to have options. Not getting any younger and the wood gettin is a little tougher each year. I'll start and finish the season with wood and use the...

    Anyone tried the Bagster?

I've been using a bagster for two seasons now, but for a different kind of heat, coal. It will bulge out so that was a problem. it worked well for my purpose though and I bought a second one last year as i had coal delivered and had to get a minimum amount. Seems strong, but I thought I saw a...

    Coal?

I burn some of Pennsylvannias finest. I burn wood in the shoulder seasons now. Started with 3 1/2 tons of coal on November 8th, and I'll be out of coal in about 3 or 4 days. Not too bad. I brought wood in the other day to dry it out and get ready for the switch. Kevin

    What's your bill ?

Don't get me started. I was just thinking about that issue the other day when we got our one property tax bill. Vote Casino, lower your tax bill. What a bunch of crap.:blob2: Kevin

Who's run out of wood, now scrounging?

Yep, been burning coal since early November and should use that up by early March. Then I'll finish up with wood for the next few weeks. I'm in the heart of the Anthracite coal region of NE Pennsylvannia so the price isn't too bad. I'm probably 80/20 anymore Coal to wood. Kevin

Oh C'mon already, enough is enough!

This is how I do it. Cutting a path from my wood piles a few years back. and then there is Plan B if that breaksdown, but it hasn't yet....... and here's a firewood trip.... Kevin

Bruno who and the Red Hot what??

I thought Bruno Mars did a good show. He was the host of Saturday Night Live a while back. Funny guy that didn't take himself to seriously. And the boys got talent. I'm 60 years old by the way. Kevin
