    Eye splicing lifelines

Any particulars? i can see the lock stitching, but shrink wrap? I would prefer not. I dont think i could pull a shrink wrapped splice out of my FC. Id have to load it backwards, then pull other end to remove. That would suck!:(

    Oldman winter

Lots of money pushing snow? Not me plowing sucks royally. besides up here in MN winter has not even begun. The twin cities has had 5" of snow all year! Today was near 50 degrees, felt like summer. Im sure we will still get plenty of snow yet though. March and April have been known to be our...

    Wearing chaps

After reading another post on PPE, someone had questioned the ability of chaps to actually stop a turning chain. Sidestepping from that a little, my question to my fellow arbos is this. How many of you who actually climb everyday and who also cut on the ground take the time to put on chaps. Do...

    Post Your Climbing Pics

Forgot the weight rating on the crane, but with the jib on, it had a 130' side reach. MONSTER crane. Truck crane shows up with operater and spotter, a second truck shows up with just the counterweights.

    Post Your Climbing Pics

heres a pic of a big ole silver maple i had removed for a family member---$1000.00. Took me and my wife 2 days , chip on site, leave all wood. It is hard to tell from the pic but most all of this tree had to be rigged. There was a septic field just below and there were 20-30 pvc tubes sticking...

Friction: False crotch or Climbing hitch

retrieval Tom, Is that set up retrievable with a throwline, or does all that hardware free fall when retrieved? Iguess I still dont know why a puck is used instead of hitch made out of cord. That set up is almost exactly the same as my home-made system, and the only hardware on it is the...

    Work appearance-dress codes.

Im pretty much with tom on the dress code, but regarding shaving,Tom would be reprimanding me almost weekly( I hate to shave). but mentioning beard length brings up an intersting story for me. Have any of you guys seen a climber who had accidentally sucked up the full length of his beard into...

    hornet attack

bout 2 months ago, I had to prune a med. sized sugar Maple. Beginning in the top I had no problems, when getting into the lower crown I all the sudden was attacked by several white faced hornets. After feeling the stings of 2-3 of them i decided to bail. I jumped out of the canopy and hit my...

microascender vs. friction hitch on lanyards?

I too use a distal hitch for my lanyard, cept' I use a 3 over 2 distal so it grips and holds from both directions if i need to use the other end for alternate lanyarding technique. I do not use a pulley for tending but the lanyard is placed thru a biner behind the d ring directly behind the...

    Worker injury

yea but you dont have to start up your knife, just grab and cut. When i hear someone say that they would just use their chainsaw I have to laugh because realistically if you depended on the ability to retrieve and start your chainsaw simply to cut a rope youd most likely be hanging there stuck...

    Things in trees

I once found a mature rabbitt carcuss bout 30 ft up a large red oak. Best i could figure was a large bird of prey had stopped up there for dinner after going thru the drive thru.( fly thru) A racoon would have also been a possibilty I guess.

    Bandit blocking shute

How are the knives maintained? Personally i made a decision to run through many sets of new knives first before i would start having dull ones sharpened. The advantage here is that the anvil requires less adjustment, rather than adjusting for each set of sharpened knives use several sets of new...

    Battery life

Tom , Im going on 2 years and still starting strong. Some advise if you will, those portable battery jumper packs cost around 80 bucks if it gets you going just once it has probably paid for itself. Another trick i learned but have not yet implemented, run some heavy gauge wire along the...
