I'm looking at buying one of these saws. They are the same 71cc displacement, but there is some mod done to the intake(?) exhaust(?) that changes the 365 to the 372xp.
What is this? Something about grinding out the intake or exhaust port?

If you were looking at these saws would you go with the $300 cheaper 365 or is the 372xp the better choice?

Thanks for any help.

If I'm not mistaken, most 365s (except for the xt) are 65.1cc, using a 48mm bore. The 371/372 (except for xpw ) have a 50mm bore and are 70.7cc. The 365xt uses a 50mm piston and is the same displacement as a 371/372. The 372xpw has a 51.3mm piston and is 74.7cc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
If you're going to port it, I hear a lot of guys say they like the 365 as much as a 372. Stock, the 372 is stronger but also (as you say) more expensive. Saying all of that though, I have a ported 371 and it's outstanding.

This is the only difference that i have found , 372 on left 365 on right, the 365 has a divider in the transfer port cover.

Absolutely buy the consumer saw 365
For $300 cheaper. That's what I do then convert them to 50, 51.4 or 52 MM. As it's been said, the pre X torque 365 had 48 mm and different carb.

Now you are right , it's a matter of grinding out a divider in the transfer port caps to turn it into a 372

Most modern chainsaws utilize 2 or 4 transfer ports. Snowmobiles and dirtbikes are a different story. No true "valves" in a two stroke, just the action of the piston moving up and down opening and closing off intake, exhaust and transfer openings.

that's the XTs(not 365 Special) which are the same cc as the 372

I believe mine has 70.7 so Husky must have rounded up the number
So now they are exaggerating 3/10 of a cu cm. Larger?. That's 10mm by 10 mm by 3mm. Aaaahhaaaaaha

This tells us men will still try to exaggerate the 'littlest' even if it's in front of the whole public world to measure.

Ok, so it's basically the air intake chamber?
Not exactly.
Air fuel journal's. The Fuel Gets under the piston and when the piston goes down it Pressures the crank case and the fuel air comes up the transfers on top of the piston on compression stroke setting the charge.
(Not my field of expertise at all so if some one says "who told you that" don't mention my name).

I looked at the picture I took of the saw, and the tag says '365w', and on the plate on the saw, it says 365xtorq, 71cc...

W is for "west coast" or whatever. Used to be an option package, full wrap handlebar, wide discharge side cover and big felling dogs. Now i think theyre only selling the wrap handle and dogs as a kit, not able to get from a dealer that way anymore
