Found a local Craig's list add for these two saws. Says they are both about 15 years old, haven't run in 5 years. Asks $100 for both. Fair price? I am a home owner and I have an 029 with 20" and I would like something smaller for light work. Are these good saws? Should I get them even if I may have to spend some money on repairs? What should I check when I go to look? I suppose I should bring some fresh gas and oil and try to start them. What else?

    Oiler

In addition to the standard check of the p and c, I would check to make sure the oiler is funtional. I've bought two used 011, both oilers were non functional. Got the one to work by just cleaning it out and blowing some air through it. If the oiler is not working, you might get the price down and get it to work without much effort. I paid $10 for the one I got to work, $70 for the second one(screwed myself). I do love using the good one for limbing.

I have, and currently use a 012 top handle. When I got it the case gasket was allowing gas to leak into the oil tank. Oiler worked, it just slung a diluted bar oil that didn't stay on the bar. After splitting the case, it's a great little saw.

I had a 011 also. There was nothing wrong with it, and when my 012 was down, I cut ALOT of wood with it. I sold it for $75 to a guy I worked with.

I have an 011 AVT that I converted to a rear handle, & think that it's great saw for it's intended use. The opinions here on AS tend to be pretty divided with little middle ground--Folks either like them, or they really dislike 'em.

Try to talk the guy down from $100.00, unless they're in nice shape with good compression.

How much less than $100 for both of 'em? $80? $60? What's a fair price assuming they both seem to be workable. I don't want to pay too much, but I also don't expect the guy to give them to me either.

If they are orange, I believe they have an older reed valve assembly that is prone to malfunction, and maybe NLA..... I seem to recall Andy saying something about this a while back. Price may be right, but parts/headaches can rapidly erase the savings.

That said, I really like my little 009. It is small and reliable. However, I bought it new about 15 years ago, so I did not buy someone else's headache.

Have you tried searching completed auctions on eBay? It's a good indicator, as with an auction the market ultimately sets the price (though bidders should factor shipping into what the market will bear). Judging from recent prices, you could probably buy 'em both for the $100 and turn a profit on the 'Bay if you don't like 'em.

I have an 011 AVT that I like a lot. I paid $40 for it and I think I got a good deal. Parts seem to be readily available on eBay and probably through Stihl dealers as well.

    Good luck!

over charges for selling fees, etc, etc 2 seconds ago

I’ve been continuously over-charged for selling fees , detailed statements never make sense nor add up to what they deduct from my (required) paypal account.
They come up with poorly or non-explained feedback ?policies, rules,???
They are almost IMPOSSIBLE to contact in order to resolve problems -forget about speaking with them through the phone; you just get told to call back at another time.
    On and on and on!
Who are they? Ebay, Paypal, GE Financial, the marketing regulators of the world commerce system?
I don’t know, but it seems that they (see above) are getting away with a lot of in discrepancies.

holding my money 13 hours ago

Ebay now requires buyers to pay with paypal. (is this a conflict of interest?) To make it even worse; Paypal is holding funds paid by ebay buyers for 21 days or until feedback is left by same.
This is an outrage. This money does not belong to ebay or paypal. It belongs to me. Sellers pay the fees for both paypal and ebay not buyers. Further this forces me to pre-pay for the shipping costs and only afterwards will I get my money back. I am not a bank! Why should I have to pay upfront for shipping? Shipping costs can be very substantial. Is ebay and paypal paying interest for the use of my money and for the money I spend to ship items?

Ebays New Feedback System Should Be Illigal 1 day ago

As a seller for ebay from the very beginning I feel number one that we should have been offered stock options. We are the backbone of the company. Recently My feedback score of 98.1% got me kicked off of selling for ebay. They say that my CDC score, the five point additional rating system they put in place is not up to standards.
Hmmmmm all good feedback but my s/h star which I include in every sale is only 3.9 so I cannot sell any longer. They just want a cut of the s/h which are my expenses and they don’t deserve one dime of the cost. I am sickened by ebay’s practices and have taken a very hard finantial hit due to their new practices. HELP ! I want to be a part of this for many reasons – Unfair Neg feedback and all the junk that is a part of the ebay world today.
    Sincerely,
    DezzyRay

I feel your pain 4 days ago

The truth is Ebay doesn’t care. I’ve been an Ebay Trade Assistant with an actual brick & mortar Ebay store for over 5 years. Ebay’s made alot of money from my thousands of sales but they could care less. Pulled items given no reason at all, then reinstate the pulled auctions with no apology, then pulled the same auctions again. Tired of the “Trust & Safety” run-around. If there’s a lawsuit against Ebay… I WANT IN!

I was accused of selling counterfeit items, that I originally bought on ebay, with no real justification or explanation. In addition, I can’t access items that I have bought, to ensure that I received them all.

Account restricted for false copyright violation claims !! 1 week ago
We’re an eBay powerseller. Have been selling on eBay for 4-5yrs and 2 yrs with our current account. Have 100% Positive feedback and a total of 3 neutrals. We’ve known that eBay’s customer support is non-existent but the past year has been the worst ever… not only is there no support but now ebay is attacking their own customers!
In the past week we’ve had 3 auction listings canceled by eBay saying that the manufacturer contacted eBay that our listing contained copyright infringement. Seeing as how we take our own photos with our camera and handwrite each description – taking care that all facts about the product are stated but not copied directly from ANYONE’s website, I cannot understand in what way we could possibly be violating someone else’s copyrights… if anything they are violating MY copyrights for claiming that my photos and/or description are theirs???!!
We contacted eBay for the first cancellation and we were put off saying that we need to contact eBay’s trust and safety department via email, but ultimately it is our responsibility to have the manufacturer who supposedly reported us contact eBay and tell eBay that they made a boo boo and then we might be able to re-list the item. Believe me we took extra special care in all our listings since that bogus claim was made. Then the 2nd one came yesterday. Called eBay and refused to hangup until we actually spoke with a live person from this so-called “trust and safety” department. I demanded to know what was the “copyrighted” material that was being reported and eBay stated that they do not keep records of that sort of thing. I told them how can they cancel my auction if eBay does not even bother to verify the validity of these claims, they told me they work very closely with the manufacturers and that it is out of eBay’s hands it is up to the manufacturer.
I told the eBay person that we pay $2,000+ a MONTH to eBay and Paypal on fees and they are just going to take someone at their word – someone who is totally UNRELATED TO EBAY (as far as I know) and cancel my listings and restrict my account as if I’m some kind of criminal? And the 3rd listing was canceled this morning. 2 out of 3 listings were already sold at the time they were taken down. I swear that someone either another seller or the specific manufacturer is targeting us… sees us as competition and knows they can get rid of us simply by reporting a copyright violation through eBay. And there is NOTHING that eBay is going to do about it except suspend our account.
While on the phone with the eBay person, I responded that I was sick of listing “limitations” that restrict specific sellers from selling too many of a particular item (eBay even said this is not in their policies but everyone has to abide by this WTH?!?) sick of limits of shipping charges in particular categories (so what the seller has to eat the cost of shipping if the item takes $15 to ship instead of $10?), that I would take my business elsewhere. eBay person said in a matter of fact voice like they say this all the time (sorry to see you go).
Like another someone said, we’ve had our powerseller status downgraded for no apparent reason, and have suffered somewhat on our shipping charge ratings even though 95% of our listings come with free shipping… I’m sorry but if you offer free shipping the buyer should not be able to rate the shipping charge option at ALL.
I was fired from my last job for taking maternity leave, and after several months of searching eBay was our best option for keeping food on the table and the lights on. Supporting a family of 4, with 2 kids ages 1yr and 4yrs solely by doing business on eBay. This random “reporting” just because someone doesnt like the competition threatens my family and there is NOTHING we can do to stop it =(

EBAY IS TURNING INTO SCAM BAY 1 week ago
First the fees do nothing but go up with ebay, then with paypal, now I get this DSR pop-up saying I cant list becuase my shipping rating is under 4.1. This a totally garbage. I have a 403 rating with nothing but positive feedback. My account has always been in good standing, with policy, complience, etc. Time to look for a new aution site. E-bay puts nothing but these garbage polices together now. Who thinks of these. I would love to go to there headquarters and talk to these clowns.

Olive, you might want to start a new thread reguarding Ebay. Otherwise it's just buryed in a thread that it has nothing to do with.
It does seem that Ebay is becoming a bigger scam outfit every day.

Wow! I have never sold on Ebay, but have bought saws and such, with mixed results. SOunds like they are putting the squeeze to their people, and I am reluctant to start selling on there. At some point, I will be turning loose of a few 026s, 1 or 2 056 Mag 2s, a cherry 032, a near cherry 038 Mag 2, a real purty 084, an 011 AVT, an 012, and maybe an 029 S, depending on whether I can get it going and it all checks out. I will post these on the Trading Post when I am ready.

I will be looking for an 064 or 066 at some point, but right now I am building a climbing wall, and the cost will approach $1000 before I am done.

Too bad Ebay had to turn bad. It doesn't surprise me, in that human nature is so flawed, and greed seems to erode integrity like, well, like greed does.

Filthy lucre profiteth nothing in the long run.......
