Two questions actually... I don't know if I have the wrong filter on this saw, or if something is missing, but when I place the air filter over the carb intake, the filter does not completely seal against the housing. When I got the saw, there was some fine dust inside the filter and intake. I cleaned everything out, and put it back together thinking that maybe it was just installed wrong, but it still doesn't seal tight against the housing. I looked in the IPL for a gasket that might seal against the filter, but I didn't see anything. The bottom of the filter appears to be soft enough that it should seal without a gasket.
Second question. My MS440 has a similar filter, it has the pre-filter, the main filter, and then a foam insert inside of the main filter. Should I have this insert inside of my 088 filter? I looked in the IPL and didn't see any such insert. Oh, I guess I should mention that the filter says HD on it. I know there are two different filters available for this saw.
I don't want to cut with it until I get this straightened out. I just hope the previous owner didn't do any damage by running it this way.
