When I had my shop in the 80's and later, I used wd40 to prime everything even our 2 cycle repairs.

Since they changed the formula, the wd40 does not prime as before.

??????? IS THERE ANY AEROSOL THAT WILL PRIME AND LUBRICATE LIKE THE OLD FORMULATION OF WD40 ???????

Thanks,

My Grandfather used to love that stuff he would buy it every time it was on sale. I remember lighting stuff on fire with it in his garage. Lots of fun.

Hi Rookie,

Yea I had a few pyro plays with the stuff too.

The old stuff was like oily starting fluid. I guess they changed the formula about 1995. You can tell by the seal on the can cannister. The new crimp curls inward and on the old cans the crimp was in line with the outside diameter of the can.

I would say that even if you use starting fluid a little sniff done wisely wouldnt hurt an engine. A big blast over and over would probably do harm.:)

No starting fluid

Hi Rookie,

I will have to totally disagree on this one. I know it is commonly done, but the start fluid has to dry the cylinder wall (at the transfer port) and the piston. Even if it is slightly, it will cause some wear.

Respectfully,
