Today I found a chainsaw that was probably left behind by the Patton troups during the battle of the bulge in WWII...

It's a Reed Prentice Timberhog pneumatic two man saw, but it needs quite some work to get it back into shape. I am pretty convinced that it never ran since that period : chain is rusted badly, and the oil tank was filled with what appeared to be old sticky motor oil, probably from a sherman tank, LOL.

the handle near the power head also has a serious crack that does not promise a lot of good for the interiors of the saw....

For those who know the Battle of the Bulge, they will probably remember that this battle took place during very harsh winter conditions in 1944. In that sense, it's a bit funny that I found the saw and took these pics during our first day of snow this year.

Here's to "nuts" !

My grandpa was in the 811th Tank Destroyers as a tank mechanic at the Battle of the Bulge or better known as "Oh Nuts". He never spoke of the war much that I can remember but when he did you could tell it was pure hell. Cool piece of history any chance for pics??

edit: I guess I should read something all the way through, nice pics!

The Ardennes, the region where the last german offensive took place, is crowded with memorials such as tanks, canons, etc. in nearly every village, as a tribute to the (mostly) american soldiers that let their lives for our freedom.

I shudder to think of what Europe would be like had there been a different outcome.......

Yeah me too, We'd all probably be running around speaking German married to blonde hair blue eyed woman and driving Mercededs or BMW and maybe a Porsche or someting cooler... What a b*tch life would have been:) And not to mention we'd be forced to running German saws:cheers:
