i hear a lot about this saw can any of you guys tell me the specs and what makes them so great. there is a lot of good talk about it and if its that good i might consider buying 1 currently i have a 390 it runs like crap with a 20'' bar but does good with a 28'' bar.

Your 390 likes a 28" bar better than a 20"? What brand are we talking about?

Probably a Stihl 390 if it runs like crap. I don't think a 390XP would have any problems with a 20" bar ;) On the other hand, I can't see how a MS390 could run well with a 28" bar.

the only thing I can think of is he not adjusting the carb when switching bar sizes. I had an 039 and it would pull a 28 not as well as my 441 but it would do it.

I think the OP just typoed and meant that it runs like crap with a 20" but runs an 18" (not 28) well.

You have to adjust the carb whenever the saw needs it. Different bar, elevation change, what ever. The saw will tell you what it needs. Besides, adjusting the carb is a 30 second job.
