Unhappy With 390XP Porting Job

Now that I've your attention, I'll tell you why I'm unhappy with it. Because it sat at the guys shop for almost 3 months without being worked on. I did know it may take longer than usual which I was ok with. However, I was told it was done and needed to be put back together. Then a week later, I get an e-mail telling me it is on its way back, unfinished with my refund in the box for the shipping I spent to get it to Washington. I received the saw today, opened it, SUPRISE, no check! The box was still taped up the way it was when I sent it out. I won't be sending any business to that builder again because of the habitual lies that I was constantly being told. I just can't trust someone who has done me that way.
 
Why oh why do some builders keep a saw forever? If you can't get it done, just say so and don't have it sent until you can. This seems to be a recurring theme that happens over and over. And lying to cover it up won't get you anything but more trouble.
 
The guy that did my mx cylinder was the same way. After a month and a half I showed up at his shop one evening with a half rack and over a beer said how about having a look at that cyl now. He had it ready the next day. :clap:

Seems like most of these guys do great work but have trouble managing their time. If you have a little patience with them you'll be rewarded for it. :cheers:
 
Probably been a few cases where drugs and alcohol involved; prescribed or street! The old Jekyl and Hyde (hide) syndrome. Been a few that turned out both excellent and atrocious work intermixed.

Unfortunately this is par for the course for that "builder"... I don't know why so much drama and excuses come from many of the chainsaw "builders" out there...

Before a couple of you current saw builders on here jump down my throat... I'm not including you in that broad statement... :)

I know of one, and suspect one - that could just be the top of an iceberg though.

Neither of those are in Washington.

i have sent a couple of emails to the performance guy about porting my 359 and never received an acknowledgement. i just thought it might fit the pattern. oh well, after reading Evan's post i think i will try it myself. basic porting doesn't sound too difficult (with some coaching from AS).
 
If it was the Uh, Washing Hawt Sauce company...


Same with my 353 when i got it modded.


It was gone for a long time, finally got done... but only after it had been "Misplaced" and "shipping department" labeled it wrong...

For a work saw, I agree with Brothes ParrisW and Nmurph...DIY if you have skills with your hands and are mechanically enclined. You'll have a good chance at understanding what needs to be done for a good woods port.


And the satisfaction of working on your own saws is priceless.:clap:

I thought about sending my 372 off to be ported.


but then i decided to diy and im glad cause there are a LOT of un happy folks around here!!
 
All the people saying "do it yourself" scare me, I think they may be in cylinder sales. :monkey: It's almost like having someone describe how to paint a masterpiece and expecting to do it. You either have the talent or you dont, I don't know maybe you do I've just seen some :censored: up cylinders ported by guys in their garage with a dremel.

Maybe you should find something to practice on first.
