Possibly dumb question on Homelite/Jonsered bars

I got a Homelite 360 for free from my brother's neighbor. It is supposed to have a rotted carb boot, no big deal all I wanted was the bar cover. I was looking at the chain and sure enough, it will fit on my Jonsered 80, 20 inch bar. On a whim, I also looked up the two saw's bars on the Oregon site, and it looks like they both use the same bar. I tried the 360 bar on the 80 and it looks like it will work. Can anyone verify if this will be OK?

Just make sure the oiler holes line up, other than that should be fine.

Thanks! I played around a bit with the power head this evening. It's possible it has a leak between the carb and head, but the main problem seemed to me to be a carburator totally out of adjustment. High and low jets were out 8-9 turns off lightly seated. The saw looks like it has low hours on it. Maybe it can be brought back to life.

For the record I've run a 24" Husky 3/8 bar on my Homelite XL-902AM because I don't have a chain for the 28" bar I have for it right now. Had to drill a secondary oiler hole in the bar but other than that it fits the studs and tensioner just fine.

If somebody has deliberately set the screws out that far, it would make complete sense that they might have been compensating for an air leak somewhere. I've heard of some older, smaller Homelites having chronic issues with defective carb boots, but haven't experienced it personally. You might try AS member "lawnmowertech37" for old Homelite parts if needed.

Bill, the 360 I have here has 5/16" bar studs and uses a Z or K 095 small Husky mount.

I know the Oregon catalog says a D096/D196 mount but they won't fit this saw, slot is too big and the oil holes are way off. A D176 Echo/Poulan bar will work as most of them have the option to oil through the adjuster hole as well as the drilled oil hole, but the tail pattern is much bigger.

This was discussed here before and I'm not sure what the final outcome was, but several other members reported the same thing, so at this point I belive the Oregon catalog was wrong till I actually see a 360 with a D196 bar mount.

All the Homelite XL's, 450, 550, 600, 700, 800, 900 all have the same bar mount as the small mount Husky and small Dolmar. I have found some great deals on Homelite Windsor bars for my 346XP, the only catch is they are less drive links than a Husky bar. My 16" Mini-Pro is 59 links instead of the normal 60. The Windsor desgnation is CJL. I got three of these bars a couple weeks ago for $40!

My Husky dealer wanted $36 for the 16" pixel bar. These are great bars and a great price!

Did you say you wanted a 360 bar cover?. The original number was 12223-1. The replacement number is A-93930-2. I have one if you are interested.

My fault for the misunderstanding. The bar cover I wanted was the plastic bar/chain cover that slides on the bar to protect the chain, not a part on the saw. Thanks for the offer. Dave

Update

I went ahead and ran the 80 with the homelite bar on it this morning. It seems to run great and oils fine. It's raining right now, but I'll try it in some wood later.

Pulled the carb off the 360 and it does have a shredded boot. I was a bit surprised, as the rest of it looks very nice. I will try to get a look at the piston, and if it's OK I will try to get it fixed.

Carb boot

I was curious how the previous owner was so sure it was the carb boot, I now know. They had taken it apart and tried to seal the leak with electricians tape. I got a good look at piston/cylinder, and what I can see looks very clean. I am going to try to get it running.

Yes, the D196 will fit the Jred, but the original Jred mount was the D024.

The bars that came with my Super XL 925 are the same as the bars that fit the larger Olympyks if thats any help. Also had a Poulan 3700 that came with a 16'' 59 driver Homelite bar. That bar also works on my Olys.

Vibes, Poulan actually sold Poulan branded Windsor bars in the Homelite pattern but they also supplied a "s" spring spacer with the bar to convert the 5/16" studs to the 3/8" slot in the bar. The Homelite D196 and the Poulan D176 bar mounts are that close except the slot size. If your 3700 didn't have the bar stud spacer, then the bar was sloppy on it.

David, could you measure the stud size on that 360 to see if yours has a 5/16" or 3/8" stud?

Now that I think of it, the OM 251 I found at the dump back in April has a Homelite bar on it. I haven't taken it off yet to see how good of a match they are though.

It sure looks like a 5/16 to me. The stud on the 80 is noticebly bigger. The 360 has an s shaped spacer that wraps from one stud to the other.
