I was changing over the Simex's on the ute and picked up one of the mud terains and noticed this 181SE was sitting behind it.
Someone has dropped it off, but don't know who.

It's had a very minor seize on the exhaust side but the cyl is in awesome condition and the piston will clean up fine. I haven't checked the clearance with the thin rings as yet.
She has had a little moisture in there as there is slight evidence of rust on the bells so a split is in order. I don't know how long it has been sitting there.
It needs a top cover and a brake lever for external parts.
I assume things like gaskets would be non existent. Seals?

Any info at all on this model would be greatly appreciated, even mods.

Ta.

They're pretty common. Used 181/281 barrels rarely go over $30 here on e-bay. Aftermarket mufflers are available for $25-30. Top covers and other exterior parts are cheap. Those saws are as common as cow snot. The good thing about them is that the design lends itself to all sorts of modification.

Thanks for that Jacob.

I love that series of Husky. I don't know what the total year span is for the 181, 281 & 288, but almost everything interchanges for the whole build span.

I grab every one I can get my hands on!

It's interesting to see it's physically the same size as the 371/2 (don't now about the weight) with the potential to be an 88cc saw and runs the same crank as a 394.

Well that is a nice find!

I also love this series of husky. To me, they are unbelievably light for their displacements. Extremely well designed to boot. Pop off the hood & everything is right there, in line, from carb to muffler.

If the EPA gets shut down one day by some rare chance, I am going to write husqvarna & stihl and recommend that they bring back the 288 & the 064.
Actually, Id would be better if we had all the old ones in production again! shiny 2100s & 066s, O-ya

I've never seen one in the flesh. This thing is the same size as the 372 and they use a 394 crank. Go figure!
