I notice the solo's are on close out at Bailey's. What is it about them that makes them non EPA friendly? Why are they not stopping the Dolmar 7900 because it is basically the same saw as the Solo 681?

It appears Dolmar/Makita are fitting exhaust cats to those engines that need it, maybe Solo couldn't be arsed considering the small numbers they sell in the US ?

I imagine dolmar may be getting by with credits from some of their four stroke blowers. The 5105 is cat equipped. Maybe the 510 and 460 will follow as such. I am not sure if they are in a different bracket due to being low volume, etc.

It amazes me that solo hasn't packed up their sh!t and left the country. No dealers ANYWHERE. Very expensive equipment. Good but $$$$$$

Local dealer says Solo is calling it quits in US due to EPA regs. Dolmar is fitting cat mufflers on what will not pass emissions. What I heard.

The Gov is going to have it before long we have to have some kind on converter on us or stop breathing.... They are making everybody leave the country or not come to us. We are the cleanest country and the brokest due to the gov regs.......... BULLS**T.....

Look at caterpillar they stopped making on highway trk engines for 2010 and up for the US. They still build them to 2002 specs for the rest of the world......

Yeah, EPA is a bunch of idiot's. Now they say CO2 is bad. Isn't that what comes out when we exhale? Isn't that what plants take in, and then expell oxygen? Hmm, maybe EPA isn't so environmentally friendly after all. Maybe they are trying to kill the trees before we can cut them. :dizzy:

Not true, Europe and here are pretty much line ball with you guys when it come to emission's regulations overall.
It's a little swings and merry-go-rounds, but overall it's a similar plan.
eg. We went ULSD long before you, (and Europe was long before us) our limit here is 10ppm sulphur.

In some areas of industry our regs here are more draconian than yours.
CFC's/HCFC's (refrigerants) are licensed, have to be kept under lock and key, there are audits and huge fines if anything is out of order.
The storage, handling, licensing requirements and penalties are tighter than those for firearms !
You fella's can still buy air conditioning top up kits at WalMart !

So I assume the 7900 will have a new muffler soon?

My local dealer said he was actually directed to have the new crop sent back to the factory for some unknown reason? Suppose we could guess?

Didn't one of the dealers on here say that some 6400's were coming through with cats already ?
Or was it they are dropping the 6400 ?

Steve/166 did say that the 9010 was being dropped, but wouldn't comment on a replacement.

EPA sucks balz! They keep squeezing us until one day there will be no real chainsaws, only electric crap. While there's still CFC's in hair spray!:censored:

They are going after the wrong areas. Chainsaws make the world go round. Hair spray just keeps a woman from having something else to wine about.

And something else that bothers me is that you can't even hunt on Sunday in Virginia!:censored: What kind of communism is that!?! Telling a man that he can't go out and do what God made him to do? The Government is way outta line on alot of crap because they're a bunch of city slickers and they don't understand the simpler thing in the world that keep the world turning:cheers:

I guess we all need to stock up on 681s and 7900s to make sure we have them when they won't import them anymore. The epa has made diesels lose 20-35% fuel economy to have cleaner exhaust that they clean by dumping more fuel down the exhaust. Chainsaws with cats are already around now. I wonder when they're going to try to get egr on a saw.

I dont agree with many aspects of the new EPA regulations. What I will say though, is I'm willing to bet a lot of you aren't considering a place like New York City when you lament about some of the new diesel regulations. Sure, when there's 200 people per square mile, you don't have problems. But spend a day walking around a place like New York City or Washington DC and you may start to at least see some reason for them..

I'm all for cleaner air but to do it with some of the truck going from 18-20 mpg to 12-14. That doesn't make sense to me. How can it be cleaner burning that much more fuel. The epa has been giving powerplants all these extensions on rules that were put into effect 15 years ago. I'm sure someone's pockets have been lined for that to happen.

6400 probably have cats as well, the 7300 will be dropped I think.

Yeah, but their logic is flawed. Maybe not, I haven't found much logic in their decisions.
They cut the mileage in half on diesels trying to get the exhaust a little cleaner. Most folks aren't driving less, just burning more fuel. Sounds to me like they're defeating their purpose.
Making everyone in the country comply to rules made for big cities would be like making all the speed limits in the country 30 mph because that's what they are in the city. :dizzy:

Anthony, I doubt very much if there's CFC's in pressure cans still, they've been banned here for nearly twenty years.

As Mike said, smog and pollution are shocking in urban areas, if there were no pollution controls on industry or vehicles the air would be like Beijing and people, particularly kids would be coming down with all sorts of weird respiratory ailments, diseases and cancers.

The Chinese will pay the price in coming decades in terms of health.

and an interesting little bit of 'gossip', not sure if it's entirely true, but supposedly the State of California uses more barrels of oil per annum than the entire of China in the midst of their massive industrial expansion.
Sort of puts things in perspective.
