The 660 tached 14200 when we checked it. I don't like to tune to cookie cut. I just like to tune for work and let em roll. I'll check the plug color on the 395.

Now for the AFTER videos... ;) Sure looks like you have your work cut out for you.

Good luck!

Yeah I think it will take a lot of these saws will have to really respond to normal porting for a 395 to be close to the 660. I hope to get to run both with the 41" this weekend. The wife wants a couple big cookies to see if we can dry them and make something out of them.

The plug wasn't as dark as the 660s. It was a light brown. It's probably as lean as I'll run a saw.

Antivibe specs I found say that the 660 actually is slightly better. ive ran a 660, but not a 395, so I dont have 1st hand knowledge

14,200 is moving pretty good. Maybe they were just loaded up with fuel, as they did seem to clean out OK.

Yeah they were from sitting there idling. That was the first video of the day after they were warmed up and sitting there. The 2171 was idling all the way through that video.

The 660 feels a little smoother. It will change when the mounts wear out. I had another used 660 with worn mounts and it bothered my hands.

The 660 has a dual port muffler and a little work inside. I don't know for sure as I've not took it apart to see. I don't think the 395 is that rich where it's at. I don't think it could go much leaner. I'll check plug color and report back.

I have a 12 yr old stihl 066 that has a dual port muffler too. otherwise stock. That saw rips!

what is done on the inside of yours?

I tell ya, ive gotta thank Mike and his wife publicly for their hospitality. We all had a great time today. The pot roast was excellent too!! All the saws ran good. I think the 395 modded would really be a different story. I dont know if it will catch "that" 660, but it would close the gap significantly from where its at now. the 2171 did very well in that same log as well. I believe it was a second behind the 660. The 372XPW was very impressive for stock. Ill try and get a clip of the 2171 going thru taht log a little later. I was hoping that we had filmed the 346 too but we didnt. Ill have to film it when I get a chance, it ran very strong as well. I guess we just got busy and forgot to film a lot. Runnin the saws thru the cant was a lot of fun.

Dave,
the mounts have different compression "settings" too I believe, so if you like the softer one order them that way, some guys like the stiffer sets...but they all wear and people seem to forget that stuff wears out over time. especially when it sits in a hot and cold oily environment vibtrating away at 13k plus revs for hours at a time. I'm always amazed they last as long as they do.

Yeah whatever they put on the 660 from the west coast is great. It's smoother than the 395. I won't say it's super smooth like some huskys but very nice.

When you do could you please post a pic of what you think is good color. I'm always concerned I'm going to run mine to lean.

Here's the plug out of the 660. As it's broken in it's leaned out a little. I think I might richen it up just a touch from where it's at now. The plug was a lot darker 3 tanks ago.

should be more like andy said , it needs to be leaned out a bit more for my taste. running a tad rich is not always good becouse carbon build up will kill a saw just as easily as running too lean it just takes a bit longer.

Im really not much of a chainsaw tuner, but used to work on a lot of dirt track motors and drag cars. I dont know if the 2 stroke oil affects plug color or not, but we always went for the brown color like andys picture. Bout the color of a paper bag. I could be wrong, but I think your supposed to look on down in the plug for the color..?

That 660 plug doesn't look lean to me.

The pic itself isn't that good, but from what I can see, the plug is much too dark.

It should look more like this.

If I went that lean that 660 would be turning probably 16k out of the wood. I'm probably going to tune it a bit richer to get the rpms under 14k. I know it's not really lean but I don't want the thing turning over 15k out of the wood. I limb with that saw quite a bit.

I have always wondered about plug color and saws.

I found that my plugs are rich on one side and lean on the other and are in other words, inaccurate. Is this cause of the small chamber or what?

Here's the plug out of the 395. Is this more what you guys would like. To me it's still a touch lean.
