Was at the hardware store today and thought what the heck I will see if they have finally gotten in any makita saws bigger than 30cc like they promised. Well there were NO makitas but they did have a couple of new mccullochs. had a bit of a look at them and was rather unimpressed by what I saw, anyway I looked for point of origin on them and found on the sticker "Husqvarna" and made in the PRC (china)" .

Anyway the fit and finish of them was just rubbish, the plastics used in the mouldings were about the same, Will not be one of those in my stable anytime soon. The electrolux legacy is still right amongst the mix as far as I am concerned!

And here I was wondering when the chineese were gonna make knockoff Wildthingys and Mccullochs.

At least Husky is getting a slice of the chineese dumping.

Stay safe!

I think only the home owner small saws are made by Poulan. There was a video of the new McCulloch chainsaw range but I could not find it, if you know what I am talking about you have seen the video. LOL. They were milling a log with it and it was maintaining over 9000 rpm.

Here we go. From the comedic geniuses at McCulloch I give you the Greatest Chainsaw Range Ever!!!

you know i've always wounded how long a wild thing would last milling, to the point i was was thinking of buying a beam clamp from HF...just take that 16" bar and bury it in some red oak and pull hard...

Good thing they are putting more "meat" in todays chainsaws, because man I get hungry while out cutting wood.

Mother of God, please tell me the pro ones are still made in Sweeden?

Yes they're made in Sweeden.

The McCulloch in the video is nothing more than a low end Husky, they've been making them in China for some time now. Most parts on the low end Stihl's are made in China as well, some Stihl products are made there, and have been for some time now. None of this is new information.

Man I laughed when I watched this on youtube a couple of months ago! I wonder how many people watched this video and were convinced that this saw is the one for them.

As has been documented on here, when McCulloch Corp went tits up in 1999 a Taiwanese company, JennFeng Industrial Corp. bought the carcass of US operations and the name for North America.
Electolux bought the Italian factory and name for the ROW.

Travis, if you remember the name Talon in Bunnings type OPE here ?
That's the Taiwanese McCullochs.

Anyway, more recently (2008) Husqvarna either acquired the OPE division of Jenn Feng or bought the name, only a letter of intent to purchase was issued in March '08 from what I can dig up ATM.
This gave Husqvarna the use of the McCulloch name worldwide.

Anyway, this is from Husqvarna Corporate.

Brands

Having a portfolio of brands is essential for maintaining a leading position in a range of price and product categories, appealing to various end-users and throughout sales channels and regions. Husqvarna, Gardena, McCulloch and Diamant Boart are the Group’s global brands.

Husqvarna has long been a strong global premium brand for professional users and consumers who demand high performance. The brand stands for technological leadership, professional performance and high quality. The brand accounts for approximately 45 percent of Group net sales.

Gardena is the leading premium brand for watering products and garden tools in the European consumer market. The offering also includes battery-powered products. The Gardena brand accounted for approxiamely 12% of Group sales.

McCulloch will, in 2011, be launched as a global premium brand and sold to consumers in the retail channel as of 2012. The range will comprice forestry and garden products.

Diamant Boart is recognized as the global leading brand in the stone industry. The product offering includes a complete range of diamond tools for the processing of natural stone.

and on another note, the sewing machine division was spun off by Electrolux in 1997.

I had a McCulloch 2316AV a few years back that was made in America by Husqvarna. Exactly the same as some of the Poulans apart from the colour of the plastic.
Good little saw actually :) Still going - my boss bought it and if he can't kill it nobody can...

As mentioned a lot more Chinese componentry is making it's way into big name saws without the vast majority of users or members here realising it.

Good post and info.

This global marketing stuff is hard to keep up with no doubt and it appears that in the US anyway that the McCulloch chainsaws are Poulan built, at least from there website.

Chain Saws

Notice that nothing looks like what was in the video posted prior.

Those in the Video maybe europe only models and dont look that much like the Poulan built ones. The do resemble the Itailian made Partners to me though.

I still dont like the idea of a company going bankrupt and someone able to buy the name to carry on at a later time.

Mark, I'm pretty sure initially Jenn Feng kept making the same design small home/backyard user piston port engined saws that McC Corp had been building for the last couple of years of existence.

Electrolux I'm guessing used the factory in Italy for the European Macs, maybe SawTroll knows more ?

I know that Jenn Feng couldn't market 'McCulloch' here as Electrolux/Husky owned the name, so JF sold their saws and OPE here under the brand name 'Talon' and they looked almost identical to the little Pro Mac 3805AV I have in the shed.

I'm guessing they made them in the US and just sold them everywhere except North America till '08, then it became open slather.

With one exception Rick. Talon saws are the worst pieces of crap I've ever ever seen. In fact I'm not sure if Talon have made any petrol powered appliance worth a pinch of, um, ah...

I've "worked" on a few Talon saws and I have never seen something so nasty in my life. I even bought a Talon blower from Big W. The carbs couldn't be adjusted at all (even idle) and I had to take two back under warranty. My new Stihl BG86 blower is like heaven :D
