I have a piece of advice for ya Josh 'Brace, Brace, Brace' as there is a small crowd forming.

Shop was there when townhome built. We have hoa here. Rules rules rules. No outside additions like that unless approved. What can I say I didn't make the rules...

I have never known a townhouse development to be built around an outbuilding. When doing a development like that, the first step is to remove all buildings and trees. How about a picture for us?

But I like the idea of no windows. Safer.

So you're sayin' ya don't even have any mean-ass dogs and guns and stuff to help ya protect all the stuff ya don't even have?

Dude, you need some windows -- or at the very least, some air.

at first i thought it was gonna be about cleanlyness and i thought," my shop was that clean. then i moved in."
if i wanted to get into a shop/garage, i could. it doesnt even have to have any doors. a chainsaw can cut a hole big enough for me to get in through vinyl/aluminum/wood siding, studs, drywall, any electrical or plumbing real quick.
i'm not a thief. i used to hang out with some unscrupulous people a long time ago. if they knew a structure had something in it that they wanted, they found a way to get in and eventually the consequences caught up to them.
i know the object of the video, but dont think that with no windows you are safe. that garage can be gotten into pretty easy.

I don't have a single window in my shop and it's 2,400 sq feet. I built it that way so people can't see in and if they want in it's harder. Of course a determined person can get into anything. It's all about deterrence. Same reason I lock my car when I go to the store.

Our county building code now requires full plywood sheeting on the lower floor of a house. Used to be builders put plywood on the corners and Styrofoam everywhere else. Well, seems crooks were getting into houses with nothing more than a box cutter (utility knife). Now of course, a cordless Sawzall or chainsaw will allow entrance as well. But that's gonna make some noise. Where we live, someone could cut into the house with a chainsaw, shoot off the lock, drive their truck into the front of the house and no one would know except the occupants. No close neighbors. Better hope no one is home if ya try that.

Not an outbuilding. It's part of garage when they built it. They just split it 2 car garage and shop in back.

Guess its not that common?

Now I am even more confused. So your townhouse was built with a "shop" behind the garage but attached to the house? Are you sure its not the laundry room?

Nah... my garage looks like this...

As everyone already knows, a determined thief sooner or later will get to your stuff.

If they don't know its there because there are no windows for them to see it, well then you have already won half the battle.

I don't know why so many are razzing the OP for sharing a thought, I don't get it. There have been plenty of threads about "someone just stole my chainsaws".

I WISH, some one would take some off my stuff, none of the good Stuff though, but as soon as I get rid of Stuff, I get some more Stuff, To fix the Stuff that have left, only to find out the Stuff I just got won't work, and the Stuff that I got rid of would of fixed the Stuff I just got.
When I'm not working on or figuring out to do w/ my stuff, I go to AS to read about people working on their stuff.
