Made a throttle stop today. Super simple fix. I'll post pics and a video of it cutting tomorrow.

Got a little preoccupied with the old 14SB. So much for it being a "Nascar quick pit stop parts swap over" like someone here mentioned... a little more complicated than that.

Found out that I need a different part to hook the PTO spring up to, and it's now obsolete... in other words, good luck finding the little bastard.

Gotta get some more gas tomorrow, and see if one of the nearby JD dealers happens to have one of those obsolete parts laying around... if no one has it, I'll be making it. Which I honestly hope I don't have to make one. If I find one at a dealer, I'll take measurements and staple that to the IPL so if need be, I can fabricate one.

Paccity... send some of those over here if you run out of room... I'll store them for you. And probably run them every now and then too...

Yep! NASCAR quick, Kyle!

I've done about 4 over the last 2 - 3 years here and saw no problems like you're experiencing. The trannys are a completely different can of worms, though.

IIRC, I've only seen a shoulder bolt that goes into the bottom of the crankcase. This bolt provides an anchor point for the spring used by the blade-brake assembly.

What am I missing here? The 73s don't have the top handle built into the fuel tank, yet the grip plainly shows it to be a 73.:dizzy:

Some sweet saws Fraser. Very nice.
I like the 73's but that short bar makes
it look rediculas.

I got your message, Thanks for trying.

should have called earlier. yes the bar on that is not long for this world. will be replaced with something more appropriate. but thats how i got it.

i'll check the serial # . see if it's ledgit .

I was thinking the same thing Chris. Strange stuff.

It must be possible to put the 3-25/4-30 stuff on the larger(?) chassis. That grip with the 73 cast-in is all one die casting including the crankcase, gear case, air cleaner housing, and bar mount. Pretty much unmistakable.

I'll tell you why... the parts mower I have is the pre 20000 serial, while the one that has the cracked deck is a post 200000 serial. The parts mower was set up without a blade clutch (I figure it must have been assembled from left over parts) and thus that little part is missing. They used two different ways to mount the PTO clutch spring on the early and late decks. No way to mount the late anchor onto the early deck.

Since I am missing that little part, the build is stalled. I also had to switch over the transmission mounting plates and wheel height adjusters. Re greased the ratcheting gears while I was at it. Got some of the stuff bolted on, like the transmission and the handle.

BTW, the spring I'm talking about has nothing to do with the shoulder bolt... the end of the spring I'm talking about has the mounting point for the spring end to hook over onto the deck. Got an IPL handy? I need part # M77994, listed as "Anchor" Notice that # M77994 it is listed as 1A... and notice another "Anchor" listed as 1B. There's the problem...

They go up on CL and get snapped up right away. Someone around here must have a garage full of these. It isn't me, that's for damn sure.

Nice saw!

... but the lack of a bucking spike is a deal killer for me. :jester:

suure it is :msp_wink: My new 10-10S doesn't have one either, but I have one coming off of eBay. I have another Pro Mac 10-10 here (which is my buddies) identical to the one I'm selling and his does have one. No, I'm not stealing parts off of his saw. :msp_tongue:

so what's the story behind you wanting him to get a 10-10S? :)

Doesn't have to be a 10-10S.....................Any 10-series will do (although some sort of 10-10 variant is really mandatory). It's not a "want" of mine.........................it's the rules. Plain and simple. He already has a McCulloch 250.

Super 2-10A Issues.

I just recentlty got a Super 2-10A from an ebay seller. I made a token bid...............................and unexpectedly won it for peanuts. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, but the saw has a couple issues to resolve. One minor and one a bit more pressing.

#1 is that it's missing the carb needle extensions and hardware for some reason. Can't figure why. I could just plug the two holes and adjust the short needles with a screwdriver with the AF and cover off..........but I'd really like to set the saw up the way it's supposed to be.

The next issue is more of a problem. The DSP valve appears to have seized in the head. The thin steel flange that's staked onto the stem of the DSP valve (that is lifted by the DSP linkage when you push down the thumb button) has broken off of the valve stem. I need to unstick the valve, then either replace it with another valve pin, or stake another washer onto the stem. Now if the DSP valve is indeed stuck in the fully closed possition then I could just leave it as-is and go without the DSP. That's also not the "right" way to deal with it, and my dear wife has claimed the saw and may well be running it at some point. I'd like to have the DSP valve functional on the saw for that reason.

Anybody here have a good useable DSP valve pin for these saws and/or the needle extensions/springs/retaining rings? I've found the extensions on a used parts site (and will probably order them next payday), but no luck on the DSP valve front yet.....

Cross post from the "best sounding saw" thread.

Four workhorses idling in 40-Fuel after having the eth laced pump gas drained out. Back to front: Homelite SXL-925W, McCulloch SP-81, McCulloch 650 gear drive, McCulloch PM700. All four did some good work bucking up a large downed oak last week.
