Curious what prices are for sharpening chains are in your area, from you guys that work in shops or to shops that are around. We are at $8.25 up to 24'' on/off the bar but everyone else in the area is over $10.

i get 3.00 any size and that includes setting the rackers

Allright, I'll bite...

What are "rackers" and where are you setting them??

I do a few chains for the neighbors and folks who know I mess with this stuff once in a while. I try to get 4 to 5 bucks a chain.

If your a full blown shop, you cannot afford to do them at 3-6 dollars apiece. If your doing it on the side, you should be able to keep very busy at that price.

The ones I ground I think I charged $8 for square grinding and cleaning gullets. If I was filing them it would have to be that for 20" or more.

Going rate is 8.00 around here at the shops. I'll do them for 4-5 dollars either hand filed or ground for friends or neighbors.

We charge:

$6.50 up to 24"
$7.00 up to 24" with depth guage

$8.00 over 24"
$8.50 over 24" with depth guage

^ above are off saw prices

$10.00 on saw any size....(this includes blowing out the saw)

I never have a shortage of sharpening...:msp_wink:

Our shop rate is 70$ so I figure it takes between 5 and 10 minutes to do a chain

12-14" 5.50$
16-20" 6.50$
20"+ 7.50$

That's teeth and rakers

I really hate sharpening chain and wish we'd charge 10$ and sell more chain and files and
do less sharpening.

We average about 7 min....

I've got one grinder for teeth and a separate one for rakers.
Saves me about a minute a chain not having to change wheels or angles :msp_biggrin:

we have 2 grinders...narrow wheel, thick wheel...depth gauges done by hand...
