I guess I'm sitting on a gold mine, as I have an "ultra rare" McCulloch 740......and it has an "ultra ultra rare" McCulloch W1 McWelder engine swapped into it. I call it my 740W1. Stay back boys. This one's mine!:hmm3grin2orange:

I think the rare part actually refers to the fact that it's a running McCulloch. I could be wrong.

There's nothing rare about a 740. Smallest cubes of the 700 series large frame Macs. Way overshadowed by the 790, 795 and, of course, the 797.

So, not worth a great deal.

Plus, the 740 has the Mac carb that has very little parts support, and the primer pump almost never works. Even if it runs, it probably won't run for long.

Chris you've been hanging around Mark too much.:jester:

So what is a rare 740 worth that runs?

Exactly, except I wouldn't say "way overshadowed". Just "overshadowed". They have a displacement that's only 4cc less than that of a 790 or 795 (99cc instead of 103cc). My 740 has a 103cc W1 engine in it. The swap looks to have been done long ago.

My 740W1 (LOL) has a Tillotson HL19 now, and will be a runner for many years if I have any say in the matter. It had no carburetor at all when you sent it to me, and was the 'test mule' for the HL19 that I sent you for your 795.:D

I love the part 1 of 14 in the world, I have a gold mine sitting here and didn't even know it, if I remember correctly I also have the HL carb.

Certainly WAY overshadowed by the 797. Curious omission on your part.

If I had to choose a 99cc Mac of that era, I'd reach for my 550. That's a saw I'm rather fond of for some reason.
