Been awhile since I posted last, but have a good story of the local Stihl Dealers from today.

I put my saw into storage mode recently and have the need for another bar, and as it's me I always buy 2 chains with each bar. My selling dealer had no 16" bars in stock, so on the rest of my journey and errands today I pass a good sized Stihl Dealer I didn't know about. I'm quite adamant I don't want any reduced kick-back stuff - too many bad stories from my FiL. She has a Bar (green label) - I ask if that is low kick back -"No it's the only bar Stihl makes". Then puts two green box chains down - no I say, they have the humped tie-straps; she goes back and gets two yellow boxes before she got the first set of chain I specified RSC.

I get home the chains are RMC and RS - back I go - "Oh - that doesn't matter, they are the same" she says. Ahh, no they are not, look at the cutters (she is clearly getting po'd), then I also note that the bar is not what I want either. After finding the chain mixup, I opened the box and it that crazy small radius tip. She sticks with the "that's the only bar Stihl makes" line - I had checked online before I left - no they still make 'normal' bars.

After, she became rather rude I decided to just do a 100% return and go the ebay route.

I have two NEW 16" Stihl Chainsaw Saw Chain 36230050060 33RSC-60 chains and one NEW 16" Stihl Chainsaw Guide Bar Rollomatic ES 30030008813 on the way for less (including delivery) than I was originally charged.

I just don't get it, you try to give local merchants your business and your get the wrong stuff with attitude. Ebay - no attitude - cheaper - quicker.

Thats how them dayumm Stihl dealers are. We got one up here in town that sits around squeeezing his balls all day. If ya interupt him he gets all bent outta shape...

The RMC is not a reduced kickback chain, RMC3 is reduced kickback

I only carry ES bars in 20" and bigger, there's just no demand for them in 16 and 18".

85% of the 3/8" bars and chains we sell are 20" so we stock light in 16 & 18" 3/8 stuff anyway.

If you specifically asked for a 16" ES bar and RS/C chains and they came back with something else, you should've just declined then and there.

Same here Blood. We, that guy up in town, sells 100 20inch chains and bars to every 1 16inch or 18inch 3/8 chain and bar, no demand at all for them.
I think the kicker is less bending over. We, that guy up in town, sells only the RSC hard cutting chain. People like it the best so we, that guy up in town, raise the prices on it and
letem have it,:msp_biggrin::msp_biggrin:

You just gotta wonder how someone who thinks they are doing you a favor by selling you something can stay in business.
I also have a problem with dealers who need to check their computer every time you ask a simple question.
I've always thought if you were trying to sell an item, you should at least have a clue what it is, and how it works.
There are a lot of knowledgable dealers out there, you just have to search until you find one and stick with them.

You rather they not check the computer and give misinformation, or lie? Or just tell you to buzz off for bothering them.

I have 3 nearby and don't go to any of them anymore. Good Husky and Echo dealers!:msp_biggrin:

My Stihl dealer is a true small engine shop, the guy that runs it knows his stuff...Echo dealer up the street sends a ton of business his way.
Not knocking Echo dealers in general at all this guy has a couple clowns working for him that are not only morons but rude and abrasive as well.

Ah i finally found a somewhat capable dealer, but the kicker here is that the chains are marked for **** around here. I wanted a RMC chain, but the translated stickers or the box don't really say what it is. I explained its the more round cutter, and he had it! It was marked with a freaking pen saying "round tooth".

I checked the box for markings and no luck. Looked at the cutter and it seemed right. He did add 2 links for me because he didn't have the right length in stock. Only later noticed that it has the double raker things. No colored straps on the chains either. I guess it should cut all the same. Was kind of surprised i even came this close to getting what i wanted and the prices was OK too. :chainsaw:

I've had a few similar stories with a couple of the Stihl dealers out here. I finally found one I can work with, but it took 2 years of trial and error. I will say there is a fantastic Husky dealer about 40 minutes away. They participate in the local hotsaw competitions and sponsor things like little league teams. I don't have any Husky saws yet, but I buy other power equipment from him.

I don't go to the Stihl Dealer here in my town any more because he sold me a aftermarket parts saying they were OEM parts. Just a $4 crank seal I paid $19 from the dealer here in town at least he could have repackaged the oil seal in a Stihl sack but he didn't

I go about 30 minutes away and I have two fantastic dealers in Trafton and Woolley

Certainly not. My point was simply that a good dealer should be able to answer simple questions about the products they sell. By simple, something like reccomended bar sizes for a particular saw or the best chain for an application. A dealer worth his salt should not need to consult a computer to tell me what size bars an MS460 will handle or what type of chain is best for cutting dirty wood.
All to often a dealer, or sales person will quote the manufacturers Mantra and know nothing of practical application.
Two of my local saw dealers will not touch the carb on a new saw, stating that the saws come from the factory properly tuned and the limiter caps are there to keep anyone from improperly tuning the saw. One of the dealers does not even fuel and test the saw before sending it out the door, unless specifically asked to.
There are two other dealers who tune the saw before sending it out the door and suggest that it be returned after break in to be retuned. These are the guys who get my money.
I'm not a chainsaw snob, just a guy who cuts a bunch of firewood and genuinely enjoys running his saws and cutting wood. I truly appreciate a dealer who is passionate about saws and knowledgable about what he sells.

Went to the big Stihl dealer for a very common part, a 034 flywheel key, this key fits quite a few saws, he tells me he will have to order it. $1.50 for the key $3.50 for shipping, needless to say I went home and shaved down a ms290 key. I do still frequent the parts department I just don't order anything. There is just something about the fellows behind the counter, characters all of them.

My (2) fav dealers are both stuck inside of John Deere dealerships. The closest to my house(about a mile) has a guy in his late 20's that knows his stuff real good. He knows what saw I have and has exactly what i want when i come in, will get me any chaiin i ask for and keeps certain lengths/gauge/pitch in stock for me, and i'm just a measly little firewood cutter. It did take trial and error with some other dealers before i noticed that the JD dealer became a stihl dealer as well. Gave him a shot and he's spot on. Always shoots me at least a 10% discount for coming to him too. I just wish i could find a dealer that stocked more of the Stihl apparel. I've been wanting to find a nice sweatshirt for the old man but no one around me stocks any apparel. He certainly beats the one closest to the fire station where i work that ignored me for 15 minutes at his parts counter....with a page long list of parts in hand....I went to my new found friends.

RS vs RSC chain - nevermind

I found the difference - raker shape per a July thread, and all will be RS shortly as all is comfort - the old RS style is now RSK (RS - Klassic)

Also some mention of the oil groove/hole/dimple

Apparel seems to be IMPOSSIBLE to find. I've never seen a single item in ANY shop I've been in. Probably about 8 different shops. I wish they would at least sell THAT stuff online.

We carry full line of bars up to 36", the owner has been a Stihl/Echo dealer for well over 30 years, knows his stuff. Head saw tech has over 35 years expierence wrenching on saws, used to own his own dealership, selling Stihl, Husky and Dolmar, Gold Tech, in the six weeks I've been there only one part we haven't had a sprocket for a 012. We have a ton of inventory on parts plus a 40x40 full of parts saws of all brands. Some dealers are better than others irregardless of the brand. We carry about every kind of chain Stihl makes including full skip and half skip even square ground. If it's not on the shelf we'll spin one up in a hurry.
