My mall 11 bow and strait bar

This bow i had for a while , and i needed a good motor to pair it with .
Seems to run good , the oilers on the bow were a pain in the a$$
The chain was frozen up bad and the little check valve in the back oiler was stuck and had real hard time with it plus the coil was shot , pulled my guts out , then i changed it and it now cranks good!!!

Ok fellas lets have a conversation about chain options for these old monsters. Right now my KB has scratcher chain on it and its dull. i can see the factory angles (somewhat) do i also file the tops of the teeth? M Mall #7 has the same scratcher chain on it BUT my buddies mall (that doesnt run at the moment) has semi chisel on it. i need to measure his chain and see if its the same length. is there any sources for this big old chain? I am sure this has been thought of before but would harvester chain work? i need to go out and measure my chain up in the morning to start the hunt. these saws are really cool but if they dont cut then its hard to show them off.
No you do not sharpen the tops of the teeth , just the front of the teeth , you only sharpen the tops of the raker teeth if you think they need lowering , you can tell which ones are the rakers .
When you sharpen the cutter teeth , sharpen them to a fine sharp point , but hold the file in such a manner to leave a little hook in the teeth .
They say when the teeth are short you have to slightly bend teeth outward to open up the curf so bar will clear the wood ! I have never done this step but i think the teeth have to be warm so breakage will not occur.

Nice old two man for sale in my area.

Very Very unusual for find something like this popping up in my local craigslist. It is too pricey for me, but figured I would post it here if anyone is interested. I have never seen a Homelite 2 man saw.

You still haven't. The 7-21 was engineered to be a one man saw. Adding a helper handle doesn't change it into a two man saw. That saw doesn't have enough motor to pull 4 feet of 1/2" chain. Old Poulan and Lombard two-man saws had Homelite motors.

My dream saw, KB7AY. Been wanting one of these for years and finally found a decent one--and 99% complete to boot. I spent the day cleaning, going thru the carb and ignition, and reassembling the basket-case saw. Also changed the crankcase/trans oil seal since the saw was that far apart anyway. Of course, it had been leaking into the crankcase just like my KB6.

The 60" bar and chain that you can't see will be a chore whipping into shape. Has the Disston full chisel stuff, with the removable rivet.

A little solvent and a little blow gun to clean it up.

Got the mag cover. Flywheel cover is there too, just acting as a hardware tray at the moment. Needs a couple nuts and bolts. Clutch cable has seen better days, but it is still servicable.

This muffler is in pristine shape. Modifiedmark straightened a couple of dents and brazed the seam. It'll get painted to protect it, I just slapped it on for the picture.

I noticed the serial number on the model tag and the one stamped on the engine do not match. Guess I'm not the first to go thru the motor.

Chris---------I think we just ran a two man saw last weekend at Chelsea? Did you find the saw on your trip back home? This disease is wonderful isn't it because I came home with another smaller saw myself, the raffle saw that was the wrong color for my brother Mark. Good luck with the Disston-----------I love the way they sound!

We might have run 1 or 2 big saws that day. :msp_biggrin:

I already had this KB before the GTG, but didn't have any chance to look it over. Today was my first opportunity.

She fired up with a bit of fuel down the carby earlier today. I could probably go outside right now and have it running but I have to fill the tranny first.

Did you ditch the spike on that Mac yet?

No, I dumped out the fuel and put the brute back on the shelf to play with another day. That in itself is quite a job for an old fart like me!!

What is the difference between the KB6-AY and the KB7-AY? I looked at it on Acres, but there isn't a ton of information on them there.

In a nutshell, primarily the displacement and horsepower. I would have guessed the KB7s had the tin can muffler, but my IPL indicates it also was used on the KB6AY. I'm also thinking the dual filter elements came with the KB7s and the little mesh screen on the KB6s. Probably, the KB7s had the heavier clutch assembly with more discs. And, at some point, Disston modified their chain design (to match Oregon drivers?)

To muddy the waters, in this series Disston made: KB6A, KB7A, KB6AX, KB6AY, KB7AY, and the KB7B and a lot of these models had sub-series. Lots of running changes.

Here's some more of the KB7AY. Got it running and idling today, but the dang carby likes to flood. The needle and seat are new and I even lapped them in a bit, but fuel pours out of it and kills the motor. I have a couple ideas about that.

Far as the chain, right now I have it soaking in acid. Probably half the loop is stuck and I started to individually free up links. I'll see what it looks like in the morning.

I knew it wouldn't be long till you got on that thing and whipped it into shape.

Got me thinking about fabbing up a muffler like that one for the KB6, then I thought about some dual exhaust on it.

Already has duals on it, just really short stacks. This muffler sounds nicer actually. Obviously its quieter, but it takes the sharp edges off the KB6 tone.
