is it bad to mismatch case halves

i was wondering about replacing a case half on a beater saw with a nicer one from a saw parts guy. is there a down side to this option?

Why do they sell case halves individually?

I've done it many times with Husqvarna 372 cases with no issues, but with some Stihl cases the mating surfaces for the cylinder deck wont line up properly.
