Well then, stop at a public library and log into the internet on a computer there and add the parasite to your iggy list. That is, if you have libraries there with internet access, like they do here. Or borrow a friend's laptop, Ipad, or other internet friendly device. I have some friends on the other end of Hunter Valley there if you need a reference to someone that has a laptop :D.

A Bug-Free AS is a better AS! And its a lot quieter too.

You miss my point Windy, I have him blocked on my computers but I can't block anyone when using the phone, the app doesn't allow for it. ;-)

I got told a story about a bloke trout fishing out of season at night using his night vision to look for the fishery blokes. Any how fishery rocked up and busted him then told him to buy better night vision as they had been watching him most of the night. This happened at lake eucombene I'm told

It depends too whether it's active or passive night vision. Passive just amplifies available light. Active runs an infrared light and then your goggles/sight/camera sees that. If this guy was running active infrared then anybody with a pair of goggles can see the light he's transmitting which stands out like dog balls. Passive night vision can't be detected.

"I see," said the blind man to his deaf son...

Odd though. I would expect the forum to act the same using different devices. I do not have a smart phone, as they are useless out here in the boonies. So I have no experience using on to access this site. I only have a dumb phone that costs me all of $10 a month.

Nothing wrong with dumb phones. My work phone and personal phone are both smart phones and I do actually need them (I'm on my Samsung Galaxy S5 Active as we speak) for business but for just phone calls give me an old Nokia anyday. Absolutely bulletproof and foolproof. I never dialed anybody on an old Nokia with my arse, unlike these new touch phones.

Been out cutting up mallee again today. The 7900 that I fitted the BB kit to started to run like crap. Racing then semi stalling then racing again. Of course I only brought one saw so kept using it. If it was a Mahle to end I'd have stopped it immediately. Was pretty sure I'd got an air leak in it from running no base gasket as the Permatex gear I had was getting old and hard. Anyway got it home, ripped the top end off and bingo, split impulse line. Because I remove the cylinder and whole carby assembly at once I didn't see it. This was brand new Tygon line when I put the BB top end on only a week or two ago. That's the second lot of Tygon that I've had let go off the cylinder. I don't reckon it can handle the heat. Might be a good fuel line but it's crap as an impulse line. Pretty sad when you stop using Tygon and go back to some old Chinese rubber fuel line I have here which hasn't missed a beat :)

Luckily I can remove and install a Dolmar top end in about 30 minutes so no massive downtime.

Tygon is only supposed to be used for fuel not impulse, being plastic it can't handle the heat I use windscreen washer line from Supercheap.
BTW: I see the garbage has been removed

Hey very interesting mate. We're a bit different about hunting at night although the "poaching" tag may come in if hunting at night iin game parks?
We spotlight here all the time.

I like your comment about suppressors and night vision :D I remember when all that Russian 1st Gen gear hit the market. Everybody thought it was cool and they'd all of a sudden be a Navy SEAL or SAS guy. They didn't realise that the first few generations of night vision were absolute crap. You're talking Vietnam war type gear so bloody old technology. My mate who was in the SAS said it's illegal for the public to own the latest Gen night vision. Not sure if that's the case in the US or not? I think it probably is.

Hunting and fishing at night for game is rather non-sporting in my opinion, never mind not being legal here in the states. For problem species like pigs and coyotes I am all for it though. We can kill at night here in Oregon if it is an emergency, say if a cougar is stalking your sheep or something like that. Here you cannot hunt from a car or truck either, and they can confiscate your vehicle even if you are only leaning on it to shoot. I busted a lady poaching a deer on our property in Southern Oregon after sundown. The state troopers found the shell casings on our property and the drag marks, and they busted her for poaching. They went through her truck and confiscated another gun, her POS SKS 'hunting rifle', several knives and anything that could be considered a weapon. Fat bytch, turns out that she was the local librarian that would give my ex all kinds of trouble for having overdue books.

Military gear availability here varies with technology how recent and/or sensitive it is. There are also a lot of export restrictions from the US on this type of stuff. I have worked for several military contractors as an engineer, and some stuff will never be made available to the public. Much of it is available only to law enforcement. Some stuff is dumbed down and available, like CDMA cell phone stuff. I worked on the SINGARS radio for the Army, and that was the origins of CDMA later developed at Qualcomm. Similar is GPS technology; there are military equipment and weapons that use satellites that are far more precise, but you can get GPS in just about anything now. Commercial GPS stuff here is only good to a few hundred feet in elevation, and tens of feet in distance, and uses fewer and less precise satellites.

Oddly, the best night vision stuff is available to us here to buy and use, but it gets really expensive fast. It is also highly restricted for export. The US Army controls night vision technology numbering and nomenclature. At this time the limit is Gen III (often times called Gen IV commercially, but it is really Gen III stuff). There was Generation zero, which was through WWII. Gen I stuff was developed for the VN War, including through the AN/PVS-2 scope. After the VN War the technology was enhanced in Gen II and included scopes AN/PVS-3 and 4. After Gen III was developed with better optics, sensitivity, and resolution. These include the AN/PVS-5 through AN/PVS-14, and some other types of scopes. GEN-III/OMNI VIII is the latest numbered technology, and the AN/PVS-14 is the standard issue night scope for US military. Laws controlling the types of scopes that can be used varies from state to state. Some states like California banned earlier night vision scopes, but later versions are available. The non Mil Spec AN/PVS-14 can be had for about $4,000 USD.

You can read about them here and masturbate away: http://tnvc.com/shop/tnvpvs-14-l3-gen3-omni-viii/

Yah, I get occasional calls from my brother, and all I hear is bar noises and beers clanking, and background noise. He manages a bar and pizza place across town. It is usually him sitting down on a bar stool and his phone dials me from his back pocket. Smart phones are nice, but they gouge you for data use here. I had one and it was too expensive to use. I am 'old school' and use a laptop at home. I only need a phone for voice calls, and not for the internet. I was one of the few original internet users. Back in the day, it was a DARPA (and before that ARPA) program. Only a few of us military contractor engineers used the internet for communication. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would get this insane and large. Never mind the NSA tapping. I used to support the NSA a long time ago. Back before 911 it was a different agency.

Good to see you back Wayne, I miss those restored old saws, much better to look at than my newer girls.
And yes the garbage HAS been removed,,,,, many thanks to the mods who obviously were watching and have acted accordingly.

Good work mate that's come up real well looks great. Anyone here useing silicon fuel hose? I'm haveing a good run from it especially on the old bangers that sit around a lot

Evening gentlemen,,,,, just had a quick look on FB and surprise surprise the village idiot has again told me that I'm a looser.

On the above person in question I found this snippet regarding his incredible knowledge, offering his audience his advice on a few things, pay close attension to his racing chain procedures.....
I'm so glad he was never ever my trainer or else I would of come dead last every 1st heat like him.

Well Errol,

This is an interesting thread and one that needs to be clear and easy to understand.

In Mac Chain the where 3 basic styles, Round, Semi Chisel and full Chisel, with the introduction of a square filed full chisel a little later.

Round tooth or chipper chain is a multi-purpose smooth cutting chain.
Easy to sharpen and maintain.

Semi-chisel a more aggressive chain and again mult-purpose and still easy to sharpen and maintain.

Super chisel a full professional chain for cutting green clean timber an excellent falling chain but not really a good chain for ripping as it causes lots of vibration and is hard on the saw unit, shakes everything to pieces.

Not recommended for milling as this is a falling chain and regardless of what you file the top plate at it still not smooth.

Race chains are more purpose setup to suit the saw and operator but all times achieved should be compared against a known new chain to see the benifits obtained, Many a race chain filed up by bushmen i have beaten with a new out of the box standard chain.
So much for their abilities and years of experiance as it can all come to nothing with a few strokes of misguided ego.

All chains on my race saws are brand new for strength and i leave the origion edge on the cutter as it's very crisp just paying attention to the rest of the chain, P.S What ever you take off the depth gauges you cannot put back and with saw racing if the depth gauges are set to low the chain becomes to aggressive and rough plus it kicks back like a mule not a very pleasant thing on a very high powered saw when it comes to the plunge cut as it can ruin you day very quickly.

I suggest sticking to the makers recommendations as regards angles and depth gauge setting as their've been at it a lot longer than us.

To win a race you need 3 things.

1. A good powerful power unit
2. A well sharpened and set chain.
3. A good operator with a good feel for the saw being used.

And their is no substitute for cubic inchs and rpm.

I have been doing some testing on a few chains filed up and moddified like Art Martin does and will be testing one this weekend coming at the saw races. We'll see how it handles Australian Hardwoods.

Thanks guys. Matt 2 , silicone fuel line sounds interesting, Tygon does go brittle after a few years.
I was given a freebie stihl 009L, needed a new piston

Just beware when removing the cylinder keep it straight as possible or the rod roller bearings can fall out
IMG_7114 (Custom).JPG
I found out the hard way, a dab of grease keeps them in place
IMG_7119 (Custom).JPG
Golf was the only piston I could find, but I used oem clips and Caber ring

It's a good little runner, no more project saws at the moment but I'm always on the lookout, might build myself a new PC next...ported (overclocked):D
