Feral pest here even with a collar and bell :) 100% fair game outside of the owner's yard. The damage feral/domestic cats do to our wildlife is insane. I'd happily shoot every cat in the country if given half the chance. I'd rather shoot one cat than 50 foxes.

Well, here's me leaving this particular cat-hating thread for good. If any of you dare to come here and shoot my cat on or off my property, I will legally and rightfully put two in your chest and one in your head with any number of weapons in my arsenal and send your sorry ass carcass home to Oz in a pine box.

I've met Aussies who think the same about possums, whereas here we can't kill 'em (the possums that is) fast enough.

I live in semi-rural, with now only one farming neighbour. Upon shifting here, I made a point of introducing all of us to the farmers and other neighbours. When introducing the dog, I looked the farmers in the eye and asked them to shoot my dog if ever they see it hassling their stock on their property, or see it on their property and even suspect it was hassling their stock. They have a legal right to do so but I wanted to make sure they knew I knew and would be doing my best to ensure it didn't happen and if it did they won't get any agro from me.

A few years ago, a few pig hunters trespassing on a farm neighbouring the one I was working on, lost two dogs. In the two days before the dogs were found and shot by the farmer, they killed or spooked to death over 30 sheep.

yeah i have no love for possums ,there's literally 10s of thousands of the tick carrying over grown rats ,but then i'm no native loving wildlife hippy. We run mobs of goats on the farm because the greenies wont let us clear the land :D

Anyone bought this adjustable anvil from these guys on ebay or use something similar?

I bought a cheap chinese breaker/spinner combo, delivered a few days ago, and it is utter crap. Amongst many faults, the anvil seems like it's mild steel and lasted just three chains before the edges rounded and it swallows rather than supports chain.

Before you run off - Australia (quite obviously) has a fairly unique environment. Cats are a predator without any native comparison, they have easy pickings and build numbers quickly. They do massive damage.
Responsible cat ownership is possible in Australia, but owners who let their cats roam shouldn't expect them to come home in rural environments.

Olives are a massive pest plant issue here, I kill thousands a year. Doesn't mean I go onto someone's commercial olive grove and start stem injecting.

Hah hah. Like I'm going to fly to the US and shoot your cat :) If somebody shot your cat off your property I don't think any laws would cover you if you then shot that person. If you met some of these feral cats you'd change your tune quick smart. You certainly wouldn't be giving them a cuddle. The government actually has aerial cat baiting programs going through parts of Australia. They're a massive environmental problem out here as they don't have any native predators. Dingos may knock them off but Dingos themselves are an introduced pest too.
Don't take my comments to heart, different country, different set of rules and problems.

Spent some time over Xmas in the naracoorte caves looking at fossil digs. First wave of extinctions - 40 000 years ago, almost certainly because of humans. Then 200 years ago, white humans. Right now - cats

you 2 understand what the term "feral pest" means right?

Kiwis can kill as many possums as they like AFAIC. Just like rabbits, FERAL cats, toads, goats, wild bore, water baffulo, fire ants etc etc etc etc ETC ETC ETC!!!! have ****ed this land of ours.

As for domestic cats, well they would not be so much of a problem if Human beings werent such ****ing morroanic wankers!!! Some of them should be on the "feral pest list"

shooting roos and white cocatoo is still a favourite past time for farmers....shhhh dont tell any native lovers :D but the feral pussssy is not high on the farmers must shoot list

I didn't know we had a 'cat lady' in here o_O

Moral of the story; Don't be tempted by feral diseased nasty poossy :baba:
Scott's cat is a champion and I know it has been a real great pet/friend and controller of undesirable pests. His context is somewhat different to ours so I don't think he deserves to be slighted for objecting to killing cats, although I think he may have missed any distinction between feral and domestic and context.

That said, I don't actually think any and certainly not many in here talking of shooting cats, automatically assume their local context is transferable/applicable to all other countries or parts thereof. Cats are killers, sure, but we just don't know of their order in the chain, the nature of what they are predating upon overseas, etc. That's the point I was trying to make about the possums. Context is everything. My sister found a possum with babies in the roof of their old house in Sydney and weren't allowed to do a thing until they had grown and left. Only then could she close the hole and hope none ever came back and found another way in. I found that weird because here it wouldn't see another sunrise.

And another little funny is studies have shown that having native dingos can actually be productive for some farms. They like to eat kangaroos, which reduces the amount of fresh grass being eaten.

Yeap, here we have many ways to take them out. Heck, we are still raining 1080 on 'em. I think we are one of the highest if not the highest per capita users of 1080 in the world. We also have a couple of small pockets of TB infected areas left in NZ.
