using a felt filter instead of the nylon mesh air filter helped my cs2253 from eating so much dust, it was bad with either the black or yellow mesh filter.
I doubt that helps much, if the leak is between the filter and the intake?
Exactly right Andy. The Husky filter media is the biggest issue and has the same problems as the standard flocked Dolmar filters. More often than not it is fine particulates going straight through the filter media itself, rarely around it. In softwoods this is generally not an issue but in certain Eucalypt species, especially when dead, this is a major issue. Filter oil fixes the issue straight away and I had the exact same dust ingression issues with my 550XP, 390XP's, and 3120XP's. Filter oil fixed the lot. Also the same issues with the standard filters on my 7900's and 5100-S.
Husky have a lot of catching up to do in dusty conditions. The Stihl HD2 and Dolmar HD setups kick their arse.
It actually is quite odd that the issue haven't been reported here before - and of course the amount of fine dust has a lot to do with the cutting conditions and the state of the chain....
What Would Hamish Do?
lol

Terry might know what's up with the upgrade.
I read on the interweb that husky air filters stays so much cleaner and are far superior to the crappy stihl filters that you have to clean all the time...Air Injection at work here lol

Here is the filter, it sure seems there is a lot of debris at the intake throat to me? I should have checked the hours on this saw, but it does not look to be a low hours saw. I should have snapped a couple pics of the carb area while tearing it down, it certainly was not bad like some I see.

most of the debris in the filter is near the throat, I can get a couple pics of the ext of the filter later, gotta dump ashes while it is warm out

Seems like oil pumps, leaking bar oil tanks and air filters, seem to be chronic issues within the product itself and the industry.
They're chainsaws for crying out loud. It's not like we're trying to send one to Mars. The industry can't do any better?
