Ok so I'm seriously thinking about to going to 3/8 .050 chain for everything. I have a mess of random bars and chains that I can't seem to keep organized and I'm really thinking about keeping everything consistent and cutting my own loops. Seems to me that I should be able to save a little bit of money and save a few headaches trying to keep track of everything.

Looking for feedback from those that have done this....drawbacks ? I mainly cut firewood...less than ten cords a year. I use a variety of saws but anything less than 50cc seems to get ignored and eventually sold. Also, I'm a bit of a brand whore....no loyalty whatsoever which is part of the problem :) Too many different types of bars to keep track of.

Any advice would be appreciated.

John

I just converted my 261 to 16" x 7 pin 3/8 pitch .050. Mainly because I had to buy a new bar anyway, but also to get longer cutters and to reduce the number of files and wheels I have to keep reaching for.

I try to do that John......but longer bars are .063 gauge in most cases.

I'm leaning toward .063 on everything.

Your 066 is the only saw that is done but not shipping tomorrow BTW. I need to run it more......but everything is under ice.
Whoa ! Randy's Alive !!! :) What chain works best for cutting through an inch of solid ice ? :)

No problem on the 66 Randy, I've got a Makita 6800i that's headed my way and should be here later this week. I'll play with it a little and then send it over to cuddle lane for more bananas.

i would have loaned you mine but it was bolted to a concrete slab and it burns a lot of diesel.
