Cedarshark.... totally serious question, hope you can handle it. Nuthin wrong w/ buying from weedeaterman, but I'm curious if you have seen the link in my sig? or in the descriptions for my vids?

I don't have ads running in my vids for a reason...its because HL Supply has offered a link to me so I can get commission and I wanted to give the chainsaw community my videos w/o having to watch all the stupid Google ads. If figured that if I made enough on commisions, I wouldn't need to worry about having the annoying Google ads. At this point, i'm tempted to put the ads back up because I'm actually losing quite a bit of money without them. Still, If you read the description in my vids, it asks if you are going to buy am parts please buy from HL.... with that link.. ...so...serious question... why did you buy from weedeaterman? Did you miss the link in my sig? better price from weedeaterman? etc etc?

Had no idea you got a commission from HL Supply from your videos. I thought they were for educational purposes only. Guess I should pay more attention. Thought I was doing the community a service by ordering from a site sponsor.

Let me put it another way. ...and I'm going to discuss this in an upcoming video...

January 2016 I finally made over $100 / mo in ad revenue from Google Adsense... its not much, but it certainly helps motivate me to keep making vids. I'm running an experiment. HL supply offered me the affiliate link, and I made a vid on pressure testing at their request. So, I decided to see what $ I was making off the chainsaw stuff, as opposed to all the other stuff on my youtube channel. The easiest way to do this is to remove the Google adsense ads from my chainsaw vids. I figured I'd do the community a favor, so they wouldn't have to sit through those stupid ads. As it turns out, about 40% of my adsense revenue came from chainsaws... which I think is incredible. Now thats gone, and I was hoping to replace that with whatever revenue came from HL... figured I was doing the community a favor by removing the ads, and was hoping whoever liked my vids would use the links enough to make up the lost revenue. So far, its not happening. If the revenue picks up, I'll keep doing what I'm doing. If not, I'll switch back to Google Adsense so at least I can make a few $$ off these vids....which of course have taken me piles of $ and time to make.

If you didn't see my link, then I don't know what else to do...its first in the descriptions of ALL my chainsaw vids....

I don't need to be wealthy off these links, thats not the idea. I just would like the hobby to be self sustaining, and in which case its easier for me to trudge on and make more vids.

does that make more sense?

Matt I don't know about others, but I almost never read descriptions. I just search titles and watch the videos. Maybe a quick ad of your own in the beginning and end of video telling people where the link is...

On the other hand, you have limited your exposure to only those that see you forum posts, rather than the world wide web using YouTube. Besides, it's very easy to click Skip on the ads after 5 seconds.

Not exactly sure what you are saying here, BUT, even though the ads put up by Google are easy to ignor, for some reason, they still generate revenue. This boggles me, but it is true.

I don't limit my exposure to only those who see forum posts... the link is on every youtube chainsaw vid....in the description. Anyone who watches the vid can see it in the description, unless people are ignoring the description. This is bad because the descriptions I make are sometimes quite crucial to understanding the videos ...and sometimes contain very valuable information. Shame that more people don't read these.

Yeah, good point, but I can't go back now :(

If I go back and edit the vids, I will have to pull down the vid entirely I think. ...which I'm probably better off not doing.

I guess, I dunno. Some of my friends have already made a jingle for me. At this point I'm so busy w/ content that spending time to dress things up and make them look good isn't happening. ie, need better camera and lighting and an intro, and a catch phrase, jingle, music etc etc etc. its too much for me. lol

Mattyo, for what its worth, I for one (and I am sure it applies to many more) sincerely appreciate your effort and time spent making these videos. I watched the 350 vid several times and it saved me time and grief with the tips, tricks and tutorial you provided on this particular series of saw. I hope you get the kinks worked out and I will try to be more supportive of your hard work in the future. Although I watched the vid on porting the 350, I am so uneducated that I am afraid to try. I think you are very capable, articulate and would be a great candidate for a ground up tutorial on basic porting. Thanks again and good luck with restructuring this talent to the point where it is self-supportive.

On the oem jugs there is a step in the plating where the side of the cylinder meets the top of the combustion chamber. Ideally these need to have squish band cut. same w/ the 346xp oem cylinders.

if you look at the comparison shot of the hyway 45mm cylinder, it is plated all the way up, smooth. this one i would not cut squishband on. but thats my personal view on that.

the more you lower a jug, the LESS likely of hanging a ring end... no?

I dont think I explained it correctly.

Think of it as the top 1/16" or so of the bore is 46mm rather than 45 mm. Taking material out of the squish band would simply make this section bigger/taller. If i drop the jug, the ring is now closer to this enlarged area. Drop the jug far enough and the ring could travel into this area at TDC and catch. Looking at the wear marks in the cylinder, the ring is topping out roughly .030 below the edge of this recess, thus, if I drop the jug more than .030 the ring will now be traveling into the recess at TDC, expand into the groove and lock the motor.

This particular saw had .046 squish stock too. That's the most I have seen in one of these. The rest have all been a tight .040 and landed right on .019-.020 without gaskets. My plan was .068 off the base, .010 out of the chamber to clean it up and a .030 pop-up which would land me at .018 squish and some healthy compression but now that I noticed this relief, I'm not going to be able to drop the jug that far so right now I'm settling for .026 off the bearing cap, run a gasket and see what happens. If it's a turd, I have a new OEM 346NE cylinder to throw on it.

Taco... so...what you are saying is that up by the combustion chamber, the DIAMETER is larger???????? Never seen that, though I can see why that would be a problem is such a condition existed.

I can certainly work on such a vid. However, I am NOT the authority on porting. I'm a follower more than a leader. My objective is to learn what I can about saws, and end up with saws for myself that I can maintain and use...hopefully that have extra pop to them :) Ultimately I don't mind sharing my journey with others. I am VERY new to this, only having first picked up a chainsaw in 2013, after hurricaine Sandy. So, I only know so much. Every step of the way when I start thinking that I'm starting to get the hang of it, a monkey wrench comes my way. This 350 comparison is so far the largest monkey wrench I have seen and its very frustrating.

I will try to keep doing the vids, but I'll be very honest... this chainsaw stuff has sucked an enormous part of my life, and has been nearly all consuming for years now. I have many other aspects of my interests to focus on, so this saw stuff may slow down a bit for me, especially since the youtube stuff has not panned out how I thought it would.

Thank you for watching my vids, glad you enjoyed them!

I would suggest (if you get to do such a test again) using one, large modded muffler and swap it between saws... Also tuning them would be a large plus as some looked super rich ... I just think that might be some saws were underwhelming. I know it's hard and the saws aren't all yours to mess with but I think that an equal muffler mod and decent tune would be a little better comparison. But really thank you for your time and when I need parts I will use your link :)

Can I ship a 350 to test with my muffler mod? No b&c to cut down on shipping cost.
