Not a bad gig. I have a friend who worked out in Michigan marking timber a few years ago. Really liked it out there. Sure what ever you wind up with you will be happy with.

I have almost all used equipment. That way if I decide to walk away for any reason I don't lose as much money. I decided to go back to College and have to work around that schedule. Though I do intend to buy a brand new 390xp or 661 one of these days.

That 390xp $1100 you think it would be worth it to break budget and get one the job is for a close friends aunt (i think they thought that would make it cheaper) so i can push it back a week if i have to but whats the story on that saw obviously good saw if its on your to get list but longevity? Quality? Sorry like i said before only husky ive ran is a 455 rancher and i was all but impressed seemed like a pooche.
Im only 24 i feel that im doing ok, most people chuckle when they hear me say i cut trees and restore boats (mostly pontoons). But any ways yeah ive ran the big boys and if budget allowed i would just go buy a 880 or 661 but for my small time op thats not necessary and bouncing around on A.S has really peaked my interest in the dolmar but the price of the efco is very appealing. But as stated before im open to new ideas. You used the word arborist crew in an earlier post i dont consider myself an aborist as i only remove and cable brace most trimming and hazardous jobs i refer the company that trained me and i stay off of his turf i would gladly call my self a kamikaze climber some one of my caliber doesnt need high end stihl equipment to rock out.

I would go for the dolmar. I ran a stock 7900 with 36 inch bar skip chain in a 54 inch oak. Actually liked it better then the 066 I was running in same tree with same bar. Better fuel economy and better av. Also had a 7910 that I ran a 32 inch bar on. Really liked both saws. If your not gonna be cutting trees like this all the time I wouldn't go for a bigger power head that wouldn't get run much. Go to a dealer and test drive one if you can.

No ive been in trees for a few years this is the biggest (trunk mass) that ive came across. So thats like 4 votes for dolmar 2 for efco.

Very nice pic btw. But oaks suck. Smell like piss when you cut em imo

Whether or not it would be worth it is up to you. I get a lot of free wood at 24 or so inches and a 576 is a bit slow to me if it is just bucking that all day long. So a big step up in power and longevity in non stop bucking day in and day out (I mean 8 hr days of just bucking logs), so in that case a 390xp or 661 makes sense. It does not sound like you are doing that. If you are doing a removal you can price around the speed of your equipment. I can only find so much time to keep up so I need SPEED. I found, ironically, that a semi chisel chain is faster for me as they are so much more resistant to damage I don't need to file as much.

But the 7910 will run neck in neck with the 576, maybe a bit better. I would run that thing with a 28 on occasion. I also only run full house semi chisel chains as the wood is so dirty I deal with so I want more saw then most for the same bar. It sounds like you can make a 7910 work with a 28 inch bar on a couple jobs. I think a lot of what people think a saw will handle is coming from one or two jobs with a marginal bar, or from folks who are far better at filing chains then I am.

Going with that logic you will never buy either a dolmar nor a efco! Aboristsite.com is Stihl & Husqvarna territory.

They do have the market share for a reason (Sithl and Husky)! I did purchase a Dolmar 6100 which has yet to see any run time. I expect it to become my go to small saw. I think it was a better saw for me then a 562.

It for sure wont be a strict 28er but for this one job it will .other that that it will most likely no matter the saw i choose house a 20 just to give the 241 a break (I litterally beat that thing senseless)

Sounds like it is the right saw for you then, they also have good resale value as well. Id bet you would be happy with a dolmar 6100 as an in between saw too. I think they compare favorably to the Stihl 362 and Husky 562.

One of the reasons is marketing, but of course you are correct that they belong to the best. Of course everyone has to decide if the major price increase is worth the, in my eyes, minor power increase.

I think that is a factor, but I also think that they have such a large market share in the USA due to the fact they were in the market when the American saw manufacturers collapsed and you had to buy something. I only know of one commercial operation that runs Dolmars in the US as their primary saws for whatever reason. I think the lack of a dealer network is less of an issue now with the internet and overnight shipping.

Honestly you can get a real clean bigger cube saw off the trading post here from a number of reputable folks. I got a really lightly used 2186 for not much more than list price of your 241.

I love my 241 but if i knew then what im starting to realize now it wouldnt have been a stihl. 2186? Is that a jonsered?

But i hate buying used. No disrespect to anyones credability i just like to buy new its not worth the slight decrease in price to me might as well spend the extra money to get new. Then you know what its been through how hard it was pushed and just the pleasure of having a clean slate to start on not the piston fried and i replaced it with oem good as new. To me its not good as new new is new used is used wether it be one tree someone fell and limbed or years of hard use. No ones honest when there is nearly a g on the table there will always be something held back.. Maybe its just a craigslist thing every one here seems straight up but ive only had bad outcomes buying used especially since im not to mechanically inclined to troubleshoot easier if its new from the stary and something happens. Idk maybe im wierd

Yes. Red equivalent of the 385 Husky.

I'm telling you there are lots of great saws floating through here. Someone coined the term "saw polisher" for the folks who collect high end saws, shelf them then sell them when they get bored and want a different saw.

I have no complaints with jonsered tho ive only use 1 a little one not sure model but 16 inch bar but it was a good saw for sure they are just a little above my price range i litterally live behind a tractor supply and they have a nice chainsaw section (all jonsered) they feel great in the hand but they are charging 800 for the 60cc model maybe just tsc prices
