The (hopefully temporary) demise of my beloved SuperMike 288. @mdavlee built me about the bitchinest 288 u'r gonna ever see.


Alas, one hot afternoon it made a death rattle, and I shut it down immediately. Unfortunately.....



The culprit?



The good news; the cylinder looks remarkably good. The bad news, since the small end bearing grenaded, I was hopeful the bottom end was fine. Sadly, it revolves 3/4 turn than catches. Maybe there's just a piece stuck there somewhere, but prolly not.

At this moment, I haven't the time or patience to split it and make it happy, so I'm gonna mothball it until I've got more time.

How did that clutch bearing get in there??? Looks like Mike needs a nurse to count things before he zips one up. Kidding of course. It is clearly operator error - too much oil in the mix and those little rollers couldn't help but squeeze out. Glad your cylinder will buff out. Ron

IDK man. Mike should warranty that bearing malfunction. What are they like five bucks....lol

It's was a pretty good run man.
I have seen only one aftermarket piston bearing that was faulty take out a saw. uncommon culprit I would think it's safe to say.
